Miriam Wallbridge is Senior Legal Counsel with Metrolinx, practicing in the area of labour, employment and human rights law. Miriam was previously Legal Counsel to the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793, and prior to this, practiced labour law with a boutique firm in Toronto specializing in construction industry labour relations.Miriam earned her LLB and BCL degrees from McGill University, graduating with Great Distinction in 2007. While at McGill, Miriam served as research assistant in Law and Psychiatry to Professor Ronald Sklar, and as a volunteer worker in the McGill Legal Information Clinic. Inspired by her legal clinic experience, Miriam spent three years, after graduation, running a community legal information clinic and access-to-justice program in Eeyou Istchee, Northern Quebec.Prior to attending law school, Miriam earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with Very High Distinction and ranked first among all political science and international relations students in her graduating class, winning the Helen and David Eisen Graduation Fellowship (University College) and the Suzanne and Edwin Goodman Prize in Political Science (Department of Political Science). Thereafter, Miriam embarked upon an MPhil in Political Theory at the University of Oxford funded by a British Chevening Scholarship (Yr. 1) and a Commonwealth Scholarship (Yr. 2). While at Oxford, she secured funding through the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for a DPhil in politics.Currently, Miriam is finalizing an LLM thesis examining the impact of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on labour law's relational trajectory and unique "proprium".Also a core classical pianist, Miriam attempts to bring a lyrical flare to her work as an advocate. Miriam shares her love of lyrical art forms and her belief in the importance of contributing to community with her husband, a professional violinist, and with their three young sons.
