Our current project focusses on the advancement of the diagnosis of active tuberculosis.As postdoctoral researcher I have been involved in the development of several ELISAs and setting up a diagnostic assay using surface plasmon resonance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. I performed my PhD research at the department Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (MMIZ) of the Erasmus University Medical Center. I have established a close collaboration with the deparmtent Clinical Chemistry and Hematology LKCH) of the University Medical Center Utrecht. My research focusses on the interaction between the blood-dwelling parasitic worm Schistosoma mansoni and human blood coagulation.Supervisors: Dr. J.J. van Hellemond (Erasmus MC), Prof. Dr. A.G.M. Tielens (Erasmus MC), Dr. R.T. Urbanus (UMC Utrecht), Dr. C. Maas (UMC Utrecht).Techniques: coagulation assays, substrate assays, ELISA, plasmid construction, DNA isolation, PCR, sequention analysis, cloning, protein production in bacterial and human cells, protein purification (Åkta systemen), gel electroforesis, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemsitry, animal experiments (hamster).
