OnMigration supports organisations that work with and for refugees and other migrants. I am involved in research into the framing of migration and its effects on public support. I translate this knowledge in an accessible way for social organizations and governments.

Tilburg Area, Netherlands

CuriCos inspires people with insights into global progress and knowledge about constructive communication. We organize 48-hour 'Abbey sessions' in Brabant and Limburg monasteries and conduct action-oriented research into the perception and framing of social issues.Together with six development organizations, I researched how you can involve people with positive and hopeful campaigns on international cooperation. Together with Empathy Lab, I am committed to depolarizing communication about refugees and migrants. And for the Ecomodernisme foundation I develop framing toolkits around the themes of agriculture and energy.

I write about global poverty, international development, media impact and the framing of energy, climate change and agriculture.

In my presentations and workshops I use practical examples to give people insight into framing. With media professionals and civil society organisations, I talk about the frames they use in their communications. I teach at the AMID masterclass international development at Radboud University.

Malawi

From time to time I live in Malawi. With my partner Ralf Bodelier and two Malawian friends I organize group tours to this beautiful country. We immerse travellers into the villages, cities and slums - where the full Malawian life takes place. Our next trip is planned in the summer of 2017.

Nijmegen Area, Netherlands

On 9 January 2018 I defended my PhD-thesis 'Framing Global Poverty' at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. News media and development organisations shape our perceptions of developing countries. The purpose of my PhD-research was to find out how. How do the media frame global poverty? How do they portray people from Africa and Asia? Who do they hold responsible for solving poverty? Malawi

In 2006, I evaluated a stranded housing project of Habitat for Humanity in Malawi. It formed the basis of my Master's thesis for the study International Development at the University of Utrecht.Two years later, with Michel Knapen, I investigated the legal needs of the residents of Ndirande, the largest slum in Malawi. It was a study for the Micro Justice Initiative in The Hague.
