I have been using computers since 1981 and I always kept my motivation when it came to dealing with new technologies. I remember browsing the Usenet comp.* newsgroups as soon as 1992. The following year, I installed Linux for the first time (this was a Sunsite/FTP mirror on a CD and I had to rawrite it onto enough floppies to get it ready for installation. The kernel was 0.99v13, the one that became 1.0. Getting X11 to work on this system was an endeavour which would freak most modern Ubuntu user away).I began designing web sites as soon as 1993 in HTML, and in Java as soon as 1995.I also worked as a business informatics teacher and in the print industry. In 1998, I was working in the very Alcatel Alsthom Research group which announced DSL. I was then in charge of the Alarming System (C++/Oracle/HP-UX).I then left to Germany where I worked in the performance team optimizing Mannesmann's Arcor billing system before leaving to Switzerland where I now work as System Administrator, Troubleshooter, Middleware specialist and Network Services integrator.Projects I have been involved in include pioneering e-payment and e-banking at the Swiss Post, managing the Department of Justice applications and handling interconnection issues with the Schengen/Interpol systems. I spent 12 years in charge of EDI and Syrius ASE technical aspects at Visana, a major Swiss Krankenkasse. There I got to master what I now describe as system ergonomics. I have now been outsourced to InventX AG… to be continued. In parallel, I worked as a journalist, I directed movies which I also edited and mastered to DVD, practiced as a musician with small Gregorian vocal ensembles, rock bands, electronic acts or massive orchesters. These days, I communicate in 4 languages on a daily basis, have lived and worked in 4 countries and keep on discovering amazing new stuff, including living off the nature and getting things fixed manually. I also spend my time composing and playing odd music, experimentally cooking, reading past classics and getting used to the idea that no one’s to live forever, so Carpe Diem.BTW, I have just gotten my first 3D printer and have been dedicating much time solving real-life problems using CAD and a calliper. I kinda like how it leads me to think spatially. Maybe, my mid-20s motto still aplies: "Artists call me a nerd, Nerds call me an artist".Specialties: Troubleshooting, system ergonomics, bug-tracking, reverse-engineering, scripting, middleware, production, automation, performance testing, hack, Internet, media contents, event organization and support...

C&V is a business my wife and I created in order to deal with a number of projects unlike what we usually were commissioned to do by our day to day employers. We perform a lot of graphical and sound design, we also produce video documentaries.C&V also spent years creating and maintaining a lot of web sites for small businesses as well as big organisations. Armed with a huge set of home made tools, we also manage our own hosts and outsource our clients' web activities. We also consult for specific projects (deployment of large wifi networks, implementation of complex web-based network monitoring solutions, smart scripting of tedious administration tasks)...In 2011, we took on developing iOS applications, so far we've got 3 apps in the store (2 games and a GPS-notepad), all of which are universal, and coded either in Objective-C, Python or Swift. 2 new apps (Health-logging and Home-Security) are currently being finalized and should reach the App Store within this summer.

I have been permanently hired by Visana Services in order to take over the administration of the Syrius ASE WLS-based application. This task implies packaging (Python/Jython based), installation, monitoring, documentation, updates, and productive maintenance.I am also in charge of the EDI platform which I managed to automate bywriting self-diagnosing and automatic-data recovery scripts.Besides Syrius and EDI, I also work as a Unix/Linux (SLES) system administrator and develop many tools for the group (Ajax-based inventory DB/meta-monitoring system..., Infoblox batch editing, Full EDI tracking).
Richemont, Versoix
I have been working there as a system specialist. Based in Versoix (GE), I was an in-house consultant for Richemont, a leading luxury group (Baume et Mercier, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lancel, Vacheron Constantin...), for whom I was in charge of maintaining and administering web servers. My main tasks included: Apache Servers productive maintenance, implementation of changes in coordination with Richemont brands' respective Web Agencies, optimisation of the server response times using Level3 Content Distribution Network, analysis and implementation of a central logs and statistics server using awstats, automatisation of the installation of server components (MySQL, Apache, PHP, Drupal, etc.) on Solaris Servers, implementation of various alarms on the WAN and the Internet to avert response time degradation whenever possible, operation of the F5 Load-balancers.

I spent there 3 years, working as a Senior Systemspezialist / Team Leader for the Portal & Middleware Team. As well as providing 3rd level support for our customer base, my duties consisted of application and server management. We maintained EJPD's Single Sign-On Portal (more than 50 thousands visitors each day) from the Swiss Dept of Justice, the Swiss Federal police, the Swiss Cantonal polices, Schengen member countries polices and Interpol. We also took an extensive care of all the Unix/Java applications which are made available through the portal.Whilst attempting to stick to the ITIL v3 model (I got an ITIL Foundation certificate in March 2011), we were monitoring the various components of our software infrastructure, operating and maintaining them in cooperation with the R&D groups. We were also in charge of the various SLA Reports aimed at the upper management. This position also involved many direct contacts with the connected offices and, because of the highly sensitive environments that are managed, rigorous discipline as well as lots of night/week-end presence.
The American people are seen as often over-informed but rarely from outside, which make them vulnerable to partial thus bogus approaches. I like the idea of filling this important gap in public information which is the reason why I applied to contribute to this excellent initiative by translating either German or French press articles dealing with American matters as seen from abroad.
I have been working there as a Systemspezialist (level III). My duties consisted of application and server management. As the B.I.T. is a federal office, I was working with huge systems which dealt with any Federal matter, such as Tax, Customs, Topography, Accounting and Transportation. The systems I administered were mostly Linux-based (even though I also happen to deal with AIX, HP-UX, Tru64, Windows Server and Solaris). The applications they ran could be based on any combination of PHP/MySQL, Apache, Samba, WebLogic, Tomcat, but also proprietary developments or Perl scripts. While occupying this position, I developed numerous Perl scripts or Ajax applications in order to enhance my group's productivity. These were warmly received by their users who qualified them as elegant, secure and "a joy to use".
eQ R&D was a great company. Based in Bern, Switzerland and funded by myself, it had its merchandising and logistics in France and Macedonia and its labs in Tomsk, Russia. We worked on many hardware and software projects and also spawned the CACKO Linux project to which I also contributed by developing Qt/C++ software.Among the hardware projects, a lot were about ARM-based embedded systems which assembly language I have been practising since the Acorn years, in 1995.
I have been hired there as a Systemspezialist (level III). After a Sun Cluster 2.1 training at Sun's, I have been in charge of the following productive multi-million clients applications : Yellownet (e-Banking), E-Payment, BMZ/RVS (mail and packages track'n trace), Online shops, Home Page Post (Corporate site and intranet), Billing, computer security, research and development, inventory, trouble-ticket management, Postauto (public transportation) and many others. My tasks consisted of systems purchase and installation, application setup, troubleshooting, performance tuning, Y2K testing, automation (scripting and monitoring), system hardening, backup, software patches, development support (PVCS/Ant/Java...), 24/7 support, inter-project communication and problem escalation.
I worked in the String/Performance Tests Team where I was expected to get a complete third millenium telecom billing system up and running and to improve its performance until it met the client's requirements. This task involved 3 weeks of experimentation in HP's test laboratories, in Böblingen (Germany) where I developped a distributed Java-enabled monitoring language to access all the messages queues from a single browser window.I also ported the complete system to HP-UX 11 after adapting and recompiling it to the newest HP ANSI C++ compiler : aCC. This involved much low-level work like libraries (RogueWave, Orbix...) recompilation. I also implemented changes in the build scripts in order to use new features (incremental linker, precompiled headers.I finally maintained the event correction process within a development team and I developed an Intranet database monitoring application to make my work easier.

As a member of the Network Management Unit, working on a subproject of the DSL project, my work consisted of the maintenance of an HP-OpenView/Oracle Alarm management Application.I also developped new software components and applications in C++, Pro*C and Java and have been granted the responsability to prepair the main application's migration to a later version. In the meantime, I also worked on my group’s Intranet.
During the 5 months between August and December, I had to handle the complete realisation of CDSI's commercial Intranet from scratch. The application consists of 3 modules: a web-based user interface, a file manager and a secure bank communication module.I managed a team of 4 persons: an administrative, a graphist, a developper and an analyst. I personally worked upon design, Java coding and NT+Linux administration. I realised the whole indexed files handling utility from scratch. It has been acknowledged as powerful, portable, secure and fast.
Lyon Area, France
From May 1996 to August 1997, I have been in charge of Cyber[Line] handling of Internet and Intranet activities. I then developped many Internet and Intranet sites such as Adecco's, Boiron's, Axor's, Jet Services'...
