Synthesis & Characterization of Low-Dimensional Materials for Electronic & Optical Devices:• Fabricated and characterized low-dimensional hetero-structures and devices inside cleanroom and glovebox. Worked with transition-metal dichaclogenides (TMDs), hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), graphene, and metal-halide perovskite quantum dots for applications in optoelectronics.• Optimized and documented synthesis parameters for the synthesis of lithographically-defined transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) through lateral conversion. Samples prepared in cleanroom using ubiquitous CMOS techniques (see Skills). Characterization of composition, morphology, and optical properties of grown materials.• Designed and soldered custom electrical setup for in-situ voltage/current application during synthesis of TMD nanowires in tube-furnace.• Programmed Python scripts to interface with equipment, run simulations, and process experimental data. Data primarily from optical and electrical measurements of thin films and devices.• Designed and optimized fabrication of integrated electron transparent membranes made using SiNx masking and KOH wet etching. Imaged and characterized samples using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).• Managed and maintained nitrogen glovebox station for manipulating air-sensitive materials.• Collaborated with groups at Berkeley Lab, Sandia National Lab, and UC Berkeley. Training and management of new users and interns on lab procedures and running experiments.

Quantum Cascade Laser Design and Characterization:• Designed long-wavelength, coherent injector GaAs/AlGaAs QC laser using simulations: Erwin Jr (Python-based Schrodinger solver) for quantum states and transport in quantum well superlattice, COMSOL Wave Physics for surface plasmon waveguide, and MATLAB for layer doping and data analysis.• Experimentally detected electroluminescence and IV characteristics of my laser at cryogenic temperatures. Used Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with lock-in amplifier for noise reduction.• Researched and presented on spectroscopic methods for QC laser-based trace gas sensing.

• Tutored for freshman mechanics and electromagnetism in individual and group sessions at the McGraw Learning Center at Princeton University.

Magnetic Domain Density Enhancement in Co/Pt Thin Films:• Researched the shape and density of magnetic domains in Co/Pt multilayer thin films as a function of magnetic history and the number of repetitions. For applications in thin-film, magnetic tape memory technologies.• Experimentation done using Magnetic Force Microscope (MFM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM).• Received funding from Brigham Young University, the National Science Foundation, and the Western Alliance to Expand Student Opportunities (WAESO).• National Science Foundation research internship Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). • Adviser: Dr. Karine Chesnel (Brigham Young University, Physics and Astronomy).
