Act as resident engineer on projects, such as interstate or multi-lane highway projects, including earthwork, drainage, bridge construction or reconstruction, waterworks, electrical or environmental operations.Inspect construction operations to ensure that the work activities conform to all applicable provisions, specifications, other contract documents, required approved submittals, and accepted good construction practice.Sample, test, and obtain all required documents for materials incorporated into construction projects such as gravel, brick, stone, reinforcement bar, bolt assembly components, and bitumen.Monitor compliance with traffic management plans and required utilization of work force personal protective equipment (PPE).Ensure Contractor is maintaining good jobsite housekeeping. Review the work performed by contractors in the construction, maintenance or site development for small buildings or building related projectsMaintain electronic or hard copy contract records as applicable for the project. Keep records up-to-date and prepared in accordance with current standard operating procedures.Make prompt payment via Contract Quantity Estimates (CQE) for satisfactory work completed. Inform Area Engineer in a timely manner of significant contract developments, changes, problems, and issues via conversation, interoffice memorandum, e-mail, etc.Notify the District Finals Engineer when an active contract reaches Contractor Field Completion. Subsequently submit all forms, evaluations, certificates, and estimates included in the finals package and forward all project records to the District Finals Engineer in a timely manner.Review employee mileage submittals.Train subordinate employees on MassDOT procedures, documentation, and field inspection.Participate in the planning, design and technical review of capital budget building projects.

Perform all functions of an Assistant to the Resident Engineer in either the District Construction, Bridge, Maintenance or Traffic section. Placement of candidates will depend on the candidate’s area of expertise, previous job experience, education history, and experience. The position includes working on one or more concurrent contracts and/or on various location contracts, with scopes of work that includes activities such as roadway resurfacing, interstate resurfacing, roadway construction or reconstruction, bridge preservation, complex bridge rehabilitation, multi-span bridge replacement, traffic signal systems upgrades/modifications/installations, and other related maintenance, reconstruction and rehabilitation work.On less complicated projects that do not include interstate resurfacing, roadway construction or reconstruction, complex bridge rehabilitation, and multi-span bridge replacement, the candidate can function as the Resident Engineer.Inspect or monitor inspection by subordinate personnel of construction operations to ensure conformance to contract provisions, contract plans, Standard Specifications, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and other technical standards. Prepare or approve all contract documentation both hand-written or computer generated on-site at construction projects or at the District Office. Supervise and train subordinate Construction Section engineering personnel.

Performs engineering duties in such areas as highways, bridges or facilities in accordance with sound engineering principles, applicable laws, regulations, and standards under the supervision of senior engineers and in coordination with other District Sections. Writes memoranda, letters and technical or general reports to supervisors concerning the status of engineering projects or problems. Performs review of consultant designs and contract documents for projects developed for advertisement through MassDOT's Road and Bridge Program. Assists in the preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for engineering projects. Performs calculations relating to engineering problems. Provides engineering data for the preparation and review of engineering or environmental reports and studies. Performs general calculations related to bridge design, survey traverses, traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater flow, and quantity of materials by using calculators, computers and other instruments. Reviews applications for licenses or permits for the transportation of materials and for the construction of privately funded improvements. Acts as an Assistant to the Resident Engineer or Resident Engineer, to inspect construction and maintenance operations on roadway, intersection and bridge improvement projects to ensure that work is being performed according to specifications. Participates in field investigations to gather information needed to resolve construction, maintenance, environmental or traffic problems. Acts as a Team Member assisting in the inspection of highway bridges. Tests materials used in the production of bituminous concrete pavements and cement concrete to ensure compliance with relevant standards

Performed on-field inspections of concrete, asphalt, soils, rebar, dust, and vibration. Was sub-contracted by RIDOT to perform as a state inspector on a couple of projects including the SB construction of the Providence Viaduct.Performed laboratory work associated with soils, concrete, and asphalt operations in the field.
