About Rachel Smith

Currently, Executive Director of Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA), I bring over ten years’ experience in policy and strategy roles across a variety of sectors including health, housing and logistics. ALRTA represents the interests of over 740 rural transporters across Australia, advocating on issues pertaining to small business, transport, safety and animal welfare. Australia has the most urbanised population in the world. 90% of Australians live in cities compared to 82% in the US and 56% in China. Australian public policy is therefore pretty citycentric in design. One of the roles of ALARTA is to ensure that policies not only work for the cities, but also regional and rural Australia.Whilst at ALC, I fostered and ensured collaboration between industry and government, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, AdBlue and pallets shortage, amongst other critical situations confronting the sector. I also acted in the CEO role. I combine strategic thinking and a knack for stakeholder engagement to unpack complexities and translate them into simple, understandable ideas to successfully develop and deliver advocacy campaigns, strategies and projects. I have a Diploma in Engineering and am currently completing MBA studies with UNSW AGSM. Other experience of note includes Project Manager for the negotiation of the Seventh Community Pharmacy Agreement representing $25.303 billion of funding for the community pharmacy sector and significant wins for consumers through more affordable health outcomes. Specialties: Advocacy, Lobbying, Political Engagement, Strategy, Strategic Projects, Commercialization, Business Development, New Business Development, Account Management, Contract and Project Management.

Listed skills include Recruiting, Business Development, Performance Management, Training, and 46 others.
