About Missy Johnson, Cmp, Des

Q. Who hates planning meetings? A. Everyone. Except me, that is. I LOVE IT. My job is to make you and your organization look AMAZING and relieve pain for those of you who feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of meeting and event planning and hotel sourcing and contracting.By leveraging my negotiating skills and personal vendor relationships while acting on your behalf, I can often save you and your organization thousands of dollars and help mitigate risk while also saving you time and headaches. MJMeetings specializes in meeting and event planning for associations and corporations who want a trusted and experienced resource on their side. We provide turnkey A-Z meeting logistics, from site research/sourcing all the way to final bill review. Our sweet spot is corporate and association meetings ranging from 50 people to several thousand.LIFE BEFORE MJMEETINGS…My career began in the hospitality industry in 1995 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center hotel in Kansas City as a Sales Assistant and Individual Travel Sales Manager. In 2000, I moved to ‘the other side’ of the industry and pursued a career as a Meeting Planner. I worked for the next 4 years at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and was promoted in just 2 years to Sr. Meeting Planner. In 2005, I was hired as Meeting Manager at Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP – since acquired by Kellen). I handled the planning responsibilities for 4 different association clients. In 2007, AAFP recruited me back as the Manager of the Meeting Services department, managing a staff of 4, running 50-60 meetings per year and assisting with two large annual conventions. In 2011, I was hired by Lockton Companies to be their first-ever professional meeting planner. I planned and executed 20 meetings and events a year with budgets totaling $20 million. I saved the company $250,000 in one year by renegotiating existing vendor contracts. In 2014, MJMeetings was born.
