Governor @ WEST SILC - Link Governor West AIPWest SILC makes provision for children and young people on five sites across the west of Leeds and we are very proud of the fact that we are a large, diverse and inclusive organisation.We have a multi-talented staff team who work in partnership with a range of therapists and the staff of our partner schools to provide a relevant, contemporary and individualised curriculum for each pupil thus ensuring that they all make outstanding progress.The Governing Body works alongside the Executive Principal and her staff, supporting and challenging, in a constant search for improvement and development of the whole school. I have been an active member of the Governing Body since March 2022 and I am very ably supported by a talented group of Governors who all work closely together at a strategic level as critical friends of the school.The task of the Governing Body is to govern the school by providing strategic leadership, holding the Headteacher to account and making sure the school’s money is well spent. We do this by meeting at least six times a year and also by delegating specific tasks to individual or groups of Governors who then report back to the Governing Body. A strategic leadership group also meet regularly.

ESOL Faculty Senior Tutor - Responsible for monitoring and supporting the adult and teenage At Risk students and managing and developing the Progress Coach. Together we have played our part in raising the Success rates by 12% and raising Retention figures from 86% to 96% over the last 3 years. In 2013-14 we worked with 90 learners at Park Lane and Enfield. This year we have increased that to 153 learners. This year only 7% of referrals left the course.

Over the last 5 years I have focussed my work on to the 16-18 age group. I believe strongly in access to education and I work closely with external agencies to ensure that any new arrivals 16-18 year olds are not becoming NEET statistics. As a result I have a keen interest in the asylum process and in immigration matters on a national scale. I know that asylum seekers face an incredible amount of barriers to education through work as a researcher for The Children's Society. I started my blog 2 years ago & feel that there is great potential for education there. I enjoy sharing the highs and lows of my work and the reflective practice of blogging.I have been involved in developing workshops on subjects like; citizenship, equality and diversity, health and safety, e-safety, theatre, emotional intelligence, self-leadership, anger management, self development, gardening, allotment work, mosaics and digital music.I am passionate about e-learning and empowering students to realise their own potential.Every Child Matters shapes a lot of my work and I use this to provide a strong rationale for and equal opportunities for my students.I have delivered group work with adults and young people in a range of environments; Summer Schools, class activities, gardening and mosaic workshops, orientation trips, theatre and outings.I work at Leeds Leeds City College.I enjoy photography and video and persue both as hobbies as well as in my work.I like reflective practice but I find it hard to make the time to do it.Sharing opens doors and creates opportunities.I'm interested in discussing the topic of spirituality in teaching.I enjoy using task based learning in classroom and have found students to be very engaged when involved in such an activity.I'm a fledgling tweeter but I have found that it has a number of ESOL professionals on there!I'm a specialist in working with UASC - unaccompanied asylum seeking children

2006-2007 The Children’s Society LEAP: Full Time Pilot Project Worker –Supporting children and young people who were in refugee families or seeking asylum in a multi agency context. Conducted research and produced a report for the Yorkshire Regional Safeguarding Board – Access to education for refugee and asylum seeking children. Influenced and implemented change in services for young people living in Leeds.06/06-08/06 Freelance ESOL Tutor & Academic Coordinator-On behalf of The Children’s Society LEAP taught and coordinated academic service delivery in a dynamic education programme pilot for international new arrivals. The 10 week intensive programme modelled an innovative approach in educating methods for a diverse learning group with high differentiation. Attendance and participation was outstanding. The student voice element informed planning for further services such as Foundation Learning International New Arrivals.
