Responsible for the research, design, and development of Trimble’s Mixed Reality Development Kit. The development kit is used by multiple Trimble divisions to build AR/Augmented Reality applications for Microsoft HoloLens, Google Tango, and other mixed reality AR/VR devices. The cross-platform toolkit uses the Unity gaming engine to mix virtual content and 3D models into a user’s real-world spaces.Responsible for the design and development of a toolkit for streaming extremely large 3D point clouds to mobile devices including Microsoft HoloLens.

Software Architect for a large mobile phone insurance application. This application is used by call center agents and licensed claim adjudicators to process claims for lost, stolen, or damaged mobile devices. This application uses several load balanced Web servers and Web Services to achieve a high level of scalability and fault tolerance. Simplicity and usability were key concerns for keeping call processing times to a minimum.Also responsible for the fraud detection and prevention product used for real-time fraud detection during claim processing and insurance program enrollment.

Software Architect for a large CRM application. Responsible for performance enhancements and optimizations for core application components and libraries used by several development teams.Responsible for the design and implementation of a custom network and application monitoring system tailored to the primary CRM application. It monitors key performance counters on the SQL Server instances and Web servers for troubleshooting and capacity planning.

Software Architect for several of Trimble’s products and future product prototypes including an Underwater ROV Simulator, an Autonomous Dozing Product, an Indoor 3D Lidar/Laser Scanner Product, and a Crane Proximity Detection product.The ROV simulator allowed pilots to train for specific missions using their native controllers and console. Realistic physics were used to simulate interactions in underwater work environments including waves, current, and obstacles. Native ROV cameras were simulated using 3D visualizations and were rendered through the pilot console using 6 to 8 LCD displays. The system ran on 4 to 8 rack mounted servers for a single ROV simulation and up to 16 servers for physics and video rendering for dual ROV simulations.The Autonomous Dozing Product allowed bulldozers to perform routine tasks without drivers and with limited human interaction. Plans could be drawn by the designer and executed by the dozer while the operator oversees from the site office.The 3D Lidar/Laser Scanner product combined a 3D lidar scanner normally used for autonomous vehicles (http://velodynelidar.com/lidar/lidar.aspx) with a 360 degree spherical camera (http://www.ptgrey.com/products/spherical.asp) to quickly build dense 3D point clouds of building interiors.

Technical Lead and Architect for several of Ipswitch’s networking products including Ipswitch Instant Messenger and WhatsUp Gold. Primary responsibilities included the application architecture and the development of core components within these applications.Responsible for the design and implementation of WhatsUp Gold, a popular Network Monitoring product. Responsible for the design of the products Web interface and reporting system. Advanced features include real-time reporting and performance analysis with hundreds of customizable reports. This Web interface provides desktop-like features in a Web application.Responsible for the design and implementation of the Windows services that form the distributed back-end of the WhatsUp product. These services are responsible for collecting network availability and performance information for thousands of devices and for sending alerts to network administrators when something goes wrong. Most Internet protocols such as HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, WMI, and SNMP are monitored out of the box while the COM architecture allows additional protocols and services to be added without changes to the base product.Responsible for designing the MS SQL database used for the WhatsUp product. Also responsible for the data storage and compaction techniques necessary to support the extremely high volume of data and transactions generated by an Enterprise Network Monitoring product.Responsible for building several products with user centered designs and also for taking several products through formal usability reviews.Responsible for the design and implementation of a Secure Corporate Instant Messaging product. Designed all aspects of the product including the UI, the messaging protocol, and the high performance Windows service for message routing. This product had many advanced features such as group conversations and group video conferencing long before the other major IM products.

Tech Lead / Architect for Content Server, a Windows 2000 based content and advertising management system. Primary responsibilities include the architecture of both the client and server software systems used to distribute advertisements to Windows CE based Internet appliances. The back-office system includes several load-balanced Windows NT services and MTS/COM components designed to manage thousands of clients. The system makes extensive use of TCP/IP communication for the Kiosk clients as well as the distributed back-office services. The GUI for this project runs on Microsoft’s IIS Web Server and communicates with the middle-tier MTS objects and NT Services through COM. All COM objects were built using ATL in Visual C++ 6.0 and take advantage of MTS for transactional integrity where necessary.

Tech Lead for FLEX PC Partner, a group of Windows 95/NT applications designed to manage the Motorola PageWriter and TimePort devices. Primary responsibilities included the development of the Infrared communication layers used for data transfer between the pager devices and host PC. I was responsible for the MFC applications used to manage device functions such as backups, device software upgrades, and PIM Synchronization (Contacts, Notes, Calendar, Tasks) with desktop applications such as Outlook and Lotus Notes. I was also responsible for the design and implementation of the Infrared Software Developers Kit. This is a library of COM components used by third party developers to communicate with the PageWriter and other Infrared devices that support the OBEX Infrared protocol
