I was the owner/principal architect of Obisidan Architecture - a residential architecture firm located in central Oregon. Once I transitioned full-time to real estate, I dissolved this company and its architectural firm license and reverted simply to my individual architectural registration. Though I no longer actively practice, I maintain my individual architecture license to this day (just in case...). What initially attracted me to Hara Shick was its boutique nature and the fact that it was owned by a brother & sister of Asian-American descent. With Hara Shick I got to dip my toes into the world of historic preservation, high-end single-family residential design, and some steady work for the State Park system. With their partnership with Portland's Ralston Architects (together as hsr architecture), I was exposed to some government work as well.The "Great Recession" (aka 2008 Recession) caught up to me in February 2009 and from that point until 2013, I bounced between Hara Shick and Tom Deatherage as a contract employee on an as-needed basis when there was work to be done. I had met and interviewed with Tom a few years prior, when I was first looking beyond Ankrom Moisan (and Portland). In late 2002, our paths crossed again and I seized the opportunity to relocate to Central Oregon to work for (and with!) him. A mini-recession in mid-2004 was the only reason I moved on.
