About Mitch Downey
I'm an Assistant Professor at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University. I'm interested in how we can have an effective and high-performing public sector despite the pressures caused by political polarization. Sometimes this work is in regulation or criminal justice domains, usually it's causal, and mostly it's in the US. I work with experiments, machine learnings, quasi-experimental causal inference methods, and text analysis. Lately, I'm particularly interested in the tradeoffs between algorithmic decision-making and bureaucratic discretion. My professional website is:https://sites.google.com/view/mitchdowney
