Mitch Yang is a partner at Carmichael IP experienced in all aspects of patent litigation from patent acquisition, licensing, and due diligence through District Court litigation and trial, USPTO post grant review proceedings, and appeals to the Federal Circuit. His practice leverages his experience to design comprehensive strategies to deliver results for his clients. Mitch has litigated patent cases in many of the top patent litigation venues including the Northern and Central Districts of California, the District of Delaware, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He secured the first preliminary injunction ever issued by the Western District of Texas based on the merits of a patent infringement case.Mitch’s experience also includes post-grant review proceedings before the USPTO, beginning with some of the earliest IPRs in 2013. Since then, he has served as lead or backup counsel on over fifty IPRs and was recognized by Patexia's 2017 IPR Intelligence Report as the 27th Best Performing Attorney Representing Patent Owners in IPRs for five years. Mitch has also served as principal attorney in several successful appeals before the Federal Circuit. His work in securing favorable decisions in appeals of both District Court judgments and PTAB final written decisions was recognized by Patexia's 2021 Federal Circuit Intelligence Report. Mitch’s litigation experience includes technologies such as computer hardware and software, semiconductors and circuits, wireless communications, multimedia encoding, and chemical synthesis.Prior to joining Carmichael IP, Mitch was counsel at several IP litigation and trial boutique firms in Texas and a patent examiner at the USPTO. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Banneker Key merit scholarship, and his J.D. from the George Washington University School of Law.
