About Mitchel Kling
I am a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive training and over 35 years of experience in clinical and translational research on the medical, endocrine, and metabolic manifestations of neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer-type dementias, mood and anxiety disorders, and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have published over 100 scientific papers, including over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals on metabololmic and lipidomic perturbations in Alzheimer-type dementias, the involvement of stress-responsive neurohormonal symptoms in depressive illness, biomarkers of the activity of these systems as measured in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and on factors associated with the Metabolic Syndrome that may in part underlie the increased risk of cardiovascular disease associated with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), including hypercortisolism, hyperinsulinism, sympathetic activation, and increased blood levels of pro-inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and acute phase proteins.I have participated as a site investigator in multiple investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical treatment trials of antidepressive agents, including investigational compounds. I was also a site investigator for the pivotal trial of Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) for treatment-resistant depression. I have participated as a site coinvestigator in a VA Cooperative Study of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for treatment-resistant MDD.I previously worked as a Director in the Department of Clinical Translational Medicine at Wyeth Research (now part of Pfizer, Inc.) in Collegeville, PA.
