I started off at Menards as a Sales Associate in the Cabinets and Appliances department. Some of my daily tasks included taking inventory of product, keeping our department organized, faced and cleaned, along with always helping out guests with whatever they need. Designing and selling kitchen cabinetry was a big focus in this position. Critical thinking and creativity really came into play within this position and allowed me to enhance those skills over time. Because of this opportunity, I have been able to enhance my interpersonal skills and get a new perspective of how the retail environment works.

I got to learn how to communicate with vendors, deal with guest issues and how to resolve them, and got to develop myself towards being a sales professional in the home improvement industry.

CWS is a third party insurance premium auditor based out of Cascade, Michigan. I began working here just after my Spring semester in 2016 as an insurance premium auditor. I worked primarily on State Farm insurance policy holders for individuals and small businesses. We had to check that all of their information was correct and that they were abiding by the insurers rules and regulations that they had set in place. This included having to call the insured constantly and communicate effectively with them to get any relevant information that was needed. Having to do twenty to thirty of these a day made for a need to prioritize my work and I learned how to schedule things very effectively here. I also took away a lot of good skills like learning how to communicate with people over the phone very well and also got experience working in an office environment. Towards the end of my eight months here, I got to work from home since I went back to school in the Fall.

D.C. Byers is a waterproofing and restoration construction business based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I began working at D.C. Byers in high school as a warehouse organizer and completing tasks that needed to be done around our yard at any given time. I then was introduced into inventorying our product that we had and getting product together for certain jobs that needed to be completed. Once I got my drivers license, I then went out and got a chauffeur's license so that I could drive some of our bigger/heavier equipment out to job sites and pick up certain products from various vendors. Once I was in college, I did not work here that often because I was so far away from home, but in the summer of 2015 I also worked out on the job with various crew members and project managers. I worked on Grand Valley, GRCC and various other hospital parking ramps during that summer. Overall, I learned to have a really good work ethic here, got to learn how to effectively inventory product and was given a lot of responsibility. I was always told that my organizational skills are one of my greatest assets and showed that through constant upkeep of our facility. I really enjoyed working here but because of school, my location and starting a family, I had to leave early in 2016.
