The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) is a non-profit, independent membership organization that represents the global trade interests of U.S. dairy producers, proprietary processors and cooperatives, ingredient suppliers and export traders.As Director of Market Access and Regulatory Affairs, I work to:•Resolve sanitary/phytosanitary issues and technical barriers to trade for U.S. dairy products, facilitating trade to key export markets. In this role, I work with the U.S. and foreign regulatory and trade agencies, USDEC Arlington staff, and USDEC overseas offices to develop and execute the initiatives of the U.S. dairy industry in trade and market access negotiations. Key to success in maintaining and growing the $6.75 Billion/yr. in U.S. dairy exports, I analyze geopolitical, economic and technical barriers to trade and implement strategies for resolution. Key markets include China, South East Asia, the European Union, India, Russia, Mexico, Canada, and the Middle East. •Supervise Market Access and Regulatory Affairs staff in 9 overseas offices to proactively identify and resolve potential barriers to trade through monitoring and analysis of foreign government regulations. Extensive travel in export markets to facilitate key outcomes crucial to maintenance or expansion of market access for dairy products from the U.S. •Serve as technical expert to members of USDEC by researching and analyzing export documentation, tariff, labeling and food additive requirements for 90 countries. •Assist USDEC members in discussions with foreign governments in the event of product detention at foreign customs. •Represent the U.S. dairy industry at international meetings, including the Codex Committee on Food Import & Export Inspection and Certification Systems.
