Network Team Intern
Ing Direct
St. Cloud, Minnesota Area
As an intern for the Network Team at ING Direct, I helped my team by taking some of the workload off of the other team members. One of the projects I worked on was, Cisco CDP, to find neighboring devices and label the ports appropriately. Another area of focus was, problem tickets, changing forward proxy rules and handling the IP address management for all of the other department’s projects. I also learned different configurations for Cisco switches and routers. I learned the risks involved in working in a live production environment by going through the procedures to install equipment in the data center. We used Solarwinds Network Monitor to ensure proper connectivity to equipment and Log logic to help troubleshoot any possible firewall issues. Beyond the technical skills, I learned how important communication is when working in a large live environment. Often directions are unclear, so it is important to get every detail before you make any changes to prevent any network down time. I also provided reliability and eagerness to learn by coming in early and volunteering for after hour projects.
