About Mitchell Hoffmann

I have always been fascinated by science and technology. This natural wonder and curiosity has largely driven who I am today. I have spent much of my career so far just trying to uncover glimpses into new ideas that may one day change the world, and I will continue to do so in hopes that one day I can be the one developing one of these ideas that has the power to halp a great many people.During my time as an undergraduate at the University of St. Thomas, I was able to foster this thirst for knowledge in many different ways. I participated in projects which included:* Building autonomous mapping and path-planning robots using Simultaneous Locating and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms* Developing an advanced system of rapid image processing in which a 200 micrometer field of view was examined at high speeds with a high frequency, resulting in very little light in the photos taken, and then de-noising, de-blurring, and precisely measuring desired objects using ellipse-fitting* Taking on leadership roles in organizing events such as technical speakers and community projects for the IEEE student chapter as its president* Working as a teaching assistant for two engineering classes (ENGR340 Signals and Systems and ENGR346 Electronics II)* Automating test failure recovery as a Systems Engineering Intern at Seagate TechnologyNow I work at Medtronic as an Associate Firmware Engineer, performing Verification and Validation testing on Home and Clinic Monitor Firmware, helping to save lives and improve the quality of service to all those that depend on Medtronic products.I am pursuing a Masters of Science in Software Engineering at the University of St. Thomas to compliment my Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering so that I can greater understand my work and to help me make an even bigger impact in the world.

I perform verification and validation testing to new and modified firmware on various platforms from home and clinic IPG/ICD monitors. Many of the tests are written or updated and maintained by me, and do so I must fully understand how the product firmware works. The platforms tested range from old and non-wireless units that use analog phone lines, to more modern wireless units built on encrypted Linux systems, to monitors built to pair with Android and iOS mobile applications.
