CurrentI was a Charge Nurse in Labor and Delivery originally,coordinating admissions and attending many deliveries each night,and was in charge of approximately 12 RN's each night shift.Part of my responsibility was also coordinating the operating rooms in Labor and delivery where patients had to be taken for Cesarean deliveries and coordinating anesthesia coverage for the OR's and the Labor floor.There are 17 labor beds on the Labor and Delivery floor at Swedish Medical Center First Hill and for a… Show more I was a Charge Nurse in Labor and Delivery originally,coordinating admissions and attending many deliveries each night,and was in charge of approximately 12 RN's each night shift.Part of my responsibility was also coordinating the operating rooms in Labor and delivery where patients had to be taken for Cesarean deliveries and coordinating anesthesia coverage for the OR's and the Labor floor.There are 17 labor beds on the Labor and Delivery floor at Swedish Medical Center First Hill and for a few years between 1998 and 2002,there were actually 2 Labor floors,one on 5 South and another on 5 East because the number of deliveries was so high.We were delivering over 600 babies per month after the Providence Labor and Delivery closed and we absorbed their entire pregnant population.In 2006,I was offered a charge nurse position on the High Risk pregnancy unit, a 20 bed in-patient specialized unit which cares for women at all stages of pregnancy experiencing complications or risks with their pregnancy.I now supervise the care of up to 20 patients per night and am in charge of up to 5 other RN's per shift.On this unit, I continue to do direct patient care, as well as supervising the other RN's,and coordinate staffing for the next shift as well.A great deal of our work involves fetal monitoring on premature babies and interpreting those tracings.This can be very challenging as some of the babies are as small as 1 lb,and I use my advanced skills in monitoring as well as my certification in ultrasound to locate these babies and accurately place the fetal monitor doppler.I also start Iv's,draw labs,check women's cervix,and do a lot of patient education regarding their high risk pregnancy Show less
