My role for Champion Lumber is to create new business relationships with companies in the Los Angeles and Newport Areas. There are a few different responsibilities that my job entails; creating new business, further developing current relationships, and representing Champion Lumber at regional events. I create new business walking onto new developing job sites and informing the superintendent how we can make their job cheaper and more effective. Champion works with hundreds of different companies and I help develop those relationships by being at every delivery they have and help fix problems when they happen in a quick and effective way.

My job entail me to supply lumber to new and existing accounts. I cover the whole process which initiates when the customer first shows interest in buying to the order is delivered to their job site. I am constantly on my phone communicating with our dispatch, buyer, and customers keeping them informed of what is going throughout the process. My existing customers have job sites all around the Southern California area. It is my responsibility to stay in touch with them and monitor and maintain their supply of lumber. The company I work for has hundreds of different products that a builder would need to frame their building. It is my responsibility to know all the products and be able to communicate what products they would need for each step of the building process. Champion Lumber receives multiple material lists each week that they price out and send back to the customer. My responsibility is to follow up on those warm leads and try to secure their business. Once I have secured the new customers, I have to build the relationships by making sure ever transaction goes as smoothly as possible. Problems do arise and it is my responsibility to problem solve the challenges so results yield satisfactory results for both the company and the customer.

The Hurley internship entailed to me work with the retail marketing team in the Southern California. The main focus I was hired to attend to monitor the inventory for multiple surf store accounts in the area and to inform the accounts of the upcoming season’s products they would expect to see. I maintained data about what products were selling and which ones were to be taken off the shelf. We hosted multiple events throughout the summer to promote the lifestyle theme that Hurley represents. The main promotional event we created was to host a nation-wide contest for secondary sales people to fly them to Hurley headquarters to so they could learn about the lifestyle and how to sell Hurley products. We took them out surfing and introduced them to multiple Hurley athletes and we were able to generate more sales from those sales people that we brought in and educated. I also worked an Agenda trade show as one of Hurley's head representatives, where I spoke with a number of vendors about what they could expect to see with the new product line.

This was a multi-year summer job where I participated in both customer service and retail sales in the Lumber business. I would help walk in customers with their orders and be able to connect them to outside salesmen who helped fulfill bigger orders. In customer service , my responsibilities included taking calls regarding missing inventory with a delivery. Once established , I would personally load and drive the additional products to the job site.
