At the current time, I am an Energy Engineer at Command Commissioning, LLC, focused on bringing data analytics to all flavors of building commissioning. Before this, I was a Ph.D. student at Texas A&M, studying building energy management with a focus on computation and data analytics. I have worked in the building energy sciences beginning in 2010, starting with work on the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) research project RP-1404 entitled, Measurement, Monitoring, and Reporting Protocols for Short-Term Monitoring and Verification of Whole Building Energy Performance. After that project, I began work at the Energy Systems Laboratory, the pioneer of the Continuous Commissioning (CC) process. I have been a leader in the development of the building automation system (BAS) trend data analysis software CC-Compass. CC-Compass is cutting-edge software in the analysis of BAS data. At the current time, we have stored and analyzed over 12 billion data points related to the operation of buildings. The software aids in data visualization along with fault detection and diagnosis algorithms. I have published work in the field of monitoring and verification (M&V) procedures, and that work led to the development of Validator, an automated tool for estimating savings from energy conservation projects. The algorithm behind Validator has also been employed in work being done by the City University of New York. Before this, I had a varied background in manufacturing including large, highly-engineered forgings, along with the quality assurance of components for Master Lock, Co. My data analysis skill set including computer programming, web development, and mechanical engineering allows me to explore problems with more tools and methods than most, and I look forward to continuing to solving problems in the building energy environment and beyond.
