The project was designed around the idea of recovering waste heat that is given off from the engine in its exhaust system.This recovery process takes the waste heat and converts it to electrical energy based on a temperature difference actingon the thermoelectric generator, this is known as the Seebeck effect.* Conditions used are based on the exhaust exit conditions after the catalytic converter but before the exit of theexhaust system on a diesel truck engine for the hot side. The cold side is the standard atmospheric conditionsexperienced on the outside the exhaust pipe.* Utilized Mathcad to produce optimized heat sinks for both cold and hot side channels that was based on operationconditions. Then using the optimum heat sink data the thermoelectric generator was chosen based on theoptimum design that the Mathcad program produced based on the operation conditions.* Built a representative channel for hot side exhaust out of Steel sheet metal to mimic the flow rate and temperatureof an exhaust system for the engine.* Channel was constricted using a drill press, vertical milling machine, manual bending machine, band saw, andmanual sheet metal cutter press.

Developed a transmission for given gearing ratios of 75%, 55%, 25%, and a 25% reverse using the Romax software.•Incorporated the gearing ratio calculations to produce helical gears with satisfactory life.•Implemented minor adjustments to improve the life, lower mesh misalignments, and the material needed to obtain the life.•Customized the transmission to where the bearings lives failed at the required life due to the fact that they are easily changed.•Given satisfactory life: 1200 hours for forward motion and 250 for reverse motion
