Heavy Equipment Operator
Buckeye, Arizona, United States
I started at Solterra as a grounds guy and was tasked with keeping the asphalt plant well cleaned and picked up. Along with going around checking all the equipment I kept all moving parts well greased and cleaned. I operated a skid steer to help with messy rock or asphalt spills and also used it for moving parts to and from areas. I kept all of our parts trailers well organized and labeled for easy finding. After a short bit I had the privilege of moving an asphalt plant and in doing so I learned a lot of mechanical maintenance. After the move I went through training to be certified for a CAT 966M front end loader. My job now was to keep the plant’s aggregate bins full as it ran. With this new position came new responsibilities like stockpiling, truck loading, ramp and material stacking, machinery maintenance, ext. the position required a very precise movement and time management when it came to all the tasks needed to be done at once along with keeping up with the high speeds the plants would operate at times. When I wasn’t in the loader I was definitely kept busy working on repairs to the plant or machinery. I was always highly recommended by the mechanics to assist in big projects that required lots of physical labor as well as welding/cutting sometimes. I was even awarded the Tail Buster award at our last big company gathering.
