Co-managed a team of engineers who worked within a matrix environment including Research, Production and Commercial to identify, prioritize and execute on various behavioral and capital savings projects. Collaborated with the business unit to organize export targets, identify the ideal production location(s), evaluate economics, and successfully produce new grade of a product leading to increased sales optionality and maximized margins. Provided leadership in the process development, technical transfer, and commercial production of a low sugar corn syrup leading to the commercialization of a new product. Utilized previously developed network to improve collaborations between Research and Operations resulting in increased yields in various fermentations and reduced manufacturing costs in sweeteners production.

Built and managed a diverse team of engineers, chemists and biologists to work at the interface of R&D, business development and plant operations in the development of downstream processes for potential new products, troubleshoot plant operations and incorporation of new technology in support of operational excellence. Led the evaluation of chromatographic technology from four different technology providers leading to adoption of a new technology being incorporated at four different production facilities. Collaborated with a team of scientists and engineers to develop, design, transfer and start up a pilot process for the production of a potential new product which facilitated the commercial plant design and business case development.

Discovered new simulated moving bed chromatographic purifications of succinic acid, lactic acid, acrylic acid and cellulosic sugars resulting in 4 patent filings. Collaborated with plant engineers to adjust crystallization operating conditions to improve the recovery of an amino acid by 1.8% resulting in a $0.5 MM/year savings. Developed a novel purification of HMF that improved upon the current product quality and cost of production leading to a pilot proposal for the production of HMF.
