As a consultant, I continued to lead teams, but focused on customers within the Medicaid and Medicare Markets. I successfully managed Data Extracts and Submission projects, along with Operational and Compliance Reporting. I helped support the onboarding of roughly 500,000 Medicaid and Medicare members onto our platform. Research in the Oncology Department under Dr. Coy Heldermon, MD, PhD In the lab, I was part of two projects. The first is one where I conducted research on inherited diseases such as lysosomal storage disorders and hemophilias by studying the cell transfer between the mother and fetus during gestation that establishes microchimerism. Focusing specifically on sanfilippo syndrome type B (MPS IIIB), we researched the therapeutic effects of adeno-associated virus'. For the second project, I studied the spread of tumors from breast cancer patients by xenografting them into mice. By performing surgeries on mice, I helped identify new targets for therapy to personalize oncologic therapeutics.

Being a member of a pre-medical club that is dedicated to various service projects and enhancement of the pre-med experience both in an academic and social perspective has enriched my passion for medicine. As part of the Sports and Medicine Committee, I have helped plan and participated in weekly events through TOP Soccer, Noah’s Endeavor, and at the Sidney Lanier Center where we play sports with children who suffer from Down syndrome and Autism. I also got the opportunity to cook once every month for the families at the Ronald McDonald House, make crafts for cancer patients at Shands Hospital, and with a small group visit various schools in Gainesville advocating how to stay fit and healthy. Through theses involvements I have been able to acquire a wider perspective of health care.

Shadowed Dr. Hernando Chong, D.O. Dr. Chong is a family physician and is also specialized in treating obesity. While shadowing Dr. Chong I assisted the nurses in taking patients vitals, as well as served as a medical scribe, imputing medical history into the patient’s medical charts. While shadowing in his doctors office, I helped the nurses take X-Rays as well as learned how to read them. The most important thing I learned while shadowing Dr. Chong is that the doctor who makes the biggest impact on his patient’s lives is one that acts not only as a healer, but a communicator. He would take his time with each of his patients and he truly cared for them.

Dance Marathon at the University of Florida, is an event where students stay standing and dancing for 26.2 hours for those who can’t. As part of the staff, I helped plan and organize events for the main event to help raise money and awareness for the UF Health Shands Children Hospital. As part of the Morale Staff, I encouraged students to continue to stand as well as interact with the Miracle Families who attended the event. I was responsible for keeping the spirit of Dance Marathon high, energetic and positive throughout the entire event as well as throughout the entire year leading up to the event.

Shadowed Dr. Patrick Antonelli, MD, FACS Dr. Patrick Antonelli is an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon as well as a neurologist. He is the department chair of Otolaryngology at Shands Hospital, and is a highly respected surgeon in the operating room. I had the privlege of shadowing Dr. Antonelli both in the Operating Room of Shands Hospital, as well as in the Operating Room in the Florida Surgical Center. I would be allowed into the operationg room along side Dr. Antonelli as he performed surgeries. This experinece made me realize that as a surgeon you have to beable to adapt to different situations, and provide the best remedy to heal the patient.
