Summer Student - Building Electrical Design
I received an excellent opportunity to showcase my knowledge from school as an electrical engineering student!**Accomplishments & Projects** -----------------------------------------------AutoCAD was used for 90% of the work I did with SMP Engineering. For three months, I worked on a very large project, making critical revisions/updates for the Calgary South Health Campus.*Project Goal*:Make critical revisions/updates for all electrical systems associated with the South Health Campus*How I Achieved This*:Took the time to review the building layout through large printed drawings. Once I was familiar with the floor layouts and different medical departments, I was able to apply my electrical systems knowledge. I made revisions to the following electrical systems:- Telecom (Data)- Power (Conduits, breakers, transformers)My first couple of months working with SMP Engineering really polished my AutoCAD skills. I worked through thousands of drawings, making detailed revisions to each according to SMP Engineering's standards.*Outcome*The South Health Campus electrical drawings became up to date. These drawings are now easily accessible in their new modernized digital form. This eliminated the need for paper-based drawing, keeping the project content easily transferable and organized.**Additional Tasks & Responsibilities**---------------------------------------------------------I took the skills and knowledge from my ENEL 519.03 - Special Topics Course: Building Electrical Design and applied them to my everyday work at SMP Engineering. This involved sizing various electrical systems/components such as:- conduit- breakers- panel schedules- lighting designDetail really matters, especially since there are various different ways to design these systems. It’s a matter of designing them with efficiency and practicality in mind. All of my work was done under the supervision of Professional Engineers and Certified Electrical Engineer Technologists.
