Software Engineer, Garmin LabsGarmin Aug 2020 - Jun 2024Olathe, Ks, UsAt Garmin I have played a pivotal part in the development of a groundbreaking product that has significantly impacted the motorsports telemetry industry. My contributions were instrumental in Catalyst receiving multiple accolades, including a judge's choice award and a top 3 ranking in telemetry at the PRI tradeshow. My technical expertise was demonstrated through my involvement in various aspects of the project, including the implementation of the Android UI, C++ algorithms, SQLite database, GPS enhancements, and API connectivity solutions. I was responsible for overseeing major product releases, which encompassed high-profile UI redesigns, significant accuracy improvements, and crucial bug fixes. Furthermore, I redesigned core algorithms and front-end interfaces, significantly boosting the product's functionality and resilience. My role extended beyond technical development, as I was a key contributor to design decisions, product roadmap planning, software validation test plans, and marketing strategies.I also worked on an embedded multi-platform project where I designed an inter-processor communication protocol and system interfaces to facilitate data transmission over USB/SPI. My collaborative skills were highlighted through my work on hardware bring-up, GPS chipset integration, and the development of a Linux audio driver. Additionally, I played an integral role in shaping the product roadmap, contributing to feature development, and creating tools essential for testing and development.Currently I am leading the development of an innovative .NET WPF desktop application. This role has allowed me to work closely with project and product managers in setting project requirements and establishing key milestones. One of my notable contributions in this role has been mentoring an experienced engineer, guiding them in adapting to Garmin's standards and tools. -
Software Egineering Intern, Area 51Garmin May 2019 - Aug 2020Olathe, Ks, UsAs an intern at Garmin International, I have been working on the development of a new product for an emerging market. As a member of the Area 51 team, I have been leveraging Garmin's industry experience and existing customer base to explore new products, and challenge the status quo across a range of business segments. On my current project, I am implementing user-facing features in a Java based Android application and assisting in the development core algorithms written in C++. I have also been adapting a core Garmin library to include additional functionality to support this new product.I have been collaborating with a team of software engineers, UX designers, and project stakeholders to develop this product. I have assisted in feature scoping and work estimations to set project milestones and deadlines. At the end of this summer, I presented my progress at the company wide Intern Expo. I advanced to the semi-final round of judging based on the merits of my work and presentation skills. -
Intern, Technology InnovationL Brands May 2018 - Aug 2018Columbus, Oh, UsAs an intern on the Technology Innovation team at L Brands, I analyzed and implemented new technology solutions to assist associates and customers in home office, stores, and online. I leveraged my knowledge and expertise to evaluate global startups and determine viable business use cases specific to the company's brands. L Brands leverages 3D design tools for their brands. During my internship I helped import 3D designed flagship stores into Unity and assisted store design leadership in VR design reviews using the HTC Vive headset. I also discovered and evaluated new tools for 3D model optimization. Where tools didn't currently exist, I leveraged partners to develop new tools that meet the specific needs of the brands. Additionally, I prepared a demonstration illustrating the value and necessity of 3D optimization process for non-technical leadership and design teams. Furthermore, I spent time investigating the capabilities of AR tools, including mobile AR, for garment visualization, assortment planning, and store design. I worked directly with the HoloLens teams at Microsoft on multiple projects.Additionally, I worked on a variety of other innovative technology projects and prototypes currently under development. I was able to improve the cost model for one product prototype by validating implementation with another component manufacturer. I also facilitated and consulted on an R&D project involving 3D scanning and modeling. Finally, I presented successful past projects and outlined the team’s innovation Proof of Concept/Minimum Viable Product process from idea to pilot. -
3D Printing SpecialistThe Ohio State University Jun 2017 - Dec 2017Columbus, Ohio, UsAs a 3D Printing Specialist at The Ohio State University, I worked directly with veterinarians to design and develop 3D printed surgical simulators. I used Materialise Mimics to manipulate CT scan data and develop anatomical 3D models as well as Meshmixer and 3D slicing software to prepare models for printing. Aside from printing I also preformed routine printer maintenance, upgrades, and new equipment acquisitions. -
Student InternDiscovery Lab Global Jun 2017 - Aug 2017During this internship at DLG, I had the opportunity to take a leadership role. I led a group of students though the DLG Virtual Learning Academy and helped them to organize and design team projects. I was also tasked with an individual engineering project which involved reading motion data from an Xbox Kinect sensor and using it to control a peripheral device. To achieve this, I used a Kinect V2 motion sensor and Microsoft Visual Studio with the Kinect 2.0 sdk to develop a desktop application. The application allowed a user to grab and manipulate a 3D cube using natural motion and was presented at the company open house and Ohio State Fair.

Student InternDiscovery Lab Global Jun 2016 - Aug 2016At Discovery Lab Global, I participated in team project design through virtual reality meetings hosted in OpenSimulator. Myself and a small team were tasked with designing a pair of "smart" pants capable of recognizing tactile input and communicating with a mobile app. Our prototype included 4 haptic sensors, an Arduino micro-controller equipped with a Bluetooth Low-Energy transmitter, and an android app. The pants could simulate the action of playing a drum by tapping different locations on a users legs. The project was demonstrated to local employers at the company open house and Ohio State Fair.
