Cerner, Technology Architect, Jan 2014 – presentNetwork architect within the transport, carrier discipline. Responsible for the network design, hardware, software code versions for our nationwide MPLS network and our metro area optical ring network. I also am responsible for the network infrastructure of our lab where we conduct POC and future technologies. Key ProjectsDesign, POC for IPv6 Network – Currently designing and budgeting to move one of our existing networks to IPv6. Currently gathering inventory, IPv6 compatibility information and starting testing of NAT64 and DNS64 technologies. Metro Optical – led the design and implementation of a Cisco Optical DWDM Network in a fully redundant ring design to allow for network connectivity to all of Cerner’s KC Metro Area campuses and data centers. Also, heavily involved in the design, and implementation of the dark fiber plant that to ensure diverse path and entry. WAN Tech Refresh – tested and set standards and documented hosted client-side network stack hardware and configuration. Assisted operational team in rolling out new hardware and resolving any issues with first few clients. IPv6 Lab – built the network infrastructure to emulate our data center pod to allow for testing of Cerner software in pure IPv6 environment. This included routing IPv6 within BGP on the Cisco ASR9k platform and testing NAT64 capabilities on F5 BigIP platform. Lab Network Core – built the network infrastructure in our lab to duplicate a production data center pod. This includes the traditional Cisco Nexus 5/6k FabricPath and the 9k ACI switching platforms and the Cisco ASR 9k for aggregation and core routing. Currently still maintain and troubleshoot environment. As well as assist in setting testing and POC for new network, compute, or storage technologies and architectures.

Network engineer in charge of network/voice design, implementation for campus and data center environments.Key Projects: Cisco UCS Upgrade: Design and implementation of upgrading our existing Cisco UCS platform and purchasing another platform for redundancy purposes. Cisco WebEx: Design and implementation of Cisco WebEx Meeting ServerCisco Jabber: Implementation of Cisco Jabber/Presence Client and server. New Building Networks: Network design and implementation for the following buildings; Cherry Street Parking Garage, Atterbury Student Success Center, Bloch Executive Hall, and MNL Library AdditionVoice Upgrade: Upgrade of Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Contact Center Express, and Unity Connection to 9.0 platform. This was a major version change that involved lots of testing and some changes in design. SIP Migration: Moved CUCM voice trunk from AT&T PRI to Windstream SIP. Significant cost savings. Voicemail Migration: Migration from Cisco Unity to Unity Connection for 4,000 users.

I was the administrator for all network, phone, TV, and server platforms at the Kansas City Royals. Key Projects:Kauffman Stadium Renovation: IT Liasion representing the Royals in the 2008/09 stadium renovation project led by Hunt/Walton, AT&T, and Cisco. This included the addition of Cisco phone system, wireless, Stadiumvision, switches, and new networking core.MLB All Star Game: Brought back as a consultant to support the 2012 MLB All Star game. Assisted in helping the Royals to expand their network and voice infastructure to accomodate 400 extra media member and 40+ broadcast trucks.

Voice administrator for Cisco CUCM, Unity and IPCC Express. Key Projects: Cisco Unity Migration: Migration of 3-4k voicemail users from Octel to Unity. Cisco IPCC Express: Testing and rollout of IPCC Express to handle small call centers at UMKC Admissions, Welcome Center, etc.
