About Mitchell Ford
My work at Intel primarily focuses on mask and physical design of Data Center and Server Accelerator chips for our largest customers. I specialize in technology development and automation of schematic and layout flows, and integrating them into physical design methodology and execution teams’ workflows.Previously as a Graduate Student at Texas State University, I worked on developing a novel nano-spectroscopic technique for use in atomic force microscopy (AFM). The AFM mode, coined dissipation-detected photo-induced force microscopy (D-PiFM), relies on IR absorption of the sample to generate a photo-induced force that is detectable using traditional lock-in amplification methodologies.
Listed skills include Mathematics, Leadership, Optics, Physics, and 38 others.

Mask Design Engineer - Automation
Development of PDK and PDE automation tools for use in physical layout design. Conducted TD for physical design engineering workflows using Cadence Virtuoso with integrated (internal and open-source) automation tools/software utilizing Python and SKILL APIs, among other languages.
Graduate Research Assistant
Developed a novel nanospectroscopic AFM modality based on the photo-induced force produced through IR optical absorption on a sample’s surface. The research focused on developing solid-state characterization methods to probe/validate electrical, optical, and noise properties of prototypical materials such as MoS2/hBN Twisted Bilayer Moiré Structures, Spin-Based Qubit Architecture (SBQA), Nanodot and SAM quantum-level structures, and others. This work integrated many custom-designed circuits and hardware-driven-software functioning asynchronously. The culmination of this research resulted in my thesis developing and introducing the d-PiFM scanning method for use in AFM.
Graduate Instructional Assistant
Conducted weekly undergraduate laboratories for advanced physics courses. The primary role focused on facilitating and guiding students while they designed and worked on projects and experiments that were derived from the physical theories and concepts learned in the lecture.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
This research focused on computational astrophysics. Using the Texas State University LEAP supercomputing cluster, scripts were run to simulate N binary star systems on a galactic scale and extrapolate their effects on stellar evolution. The focus of data extraction was on the black hole and neutron star contributions. The program used for simulation is Binary_C (Linux shell/terminal, C, Python, Perl). I presented preliminary results at a Texas Chapter APS Meeting in Oct. 2018.
Undergraduate Learning Assistant
Duties include reviewing course material during weekly meetings with the course instructor and other LAs, attending the lecture to provide assistance and guidance regarding the tutorial assignments, and tutor the related course material in the Help Center.
Undergraduate Laboratory Instructor
Conducted weekly undergraduate laboratories for introductory physics courses. The primary role focused on facilitating and guiding students while they conduct various experiments demonstrating principles and physical theories learned in the lecture.
Cashier/Server
THHC is a Family owned restaurant, serving everything from breakfast to catered dinner. My responsibilities included working the register, prepping sides, serving food and cooking pancakes.
Life Guard
Worked as a Life Guard for the City of Austin while I completed my Associates Degree in Physics and Astronomy at ACC. As a result, I am CPR certified and First Aid certified.
High School Intern
This internship provided me with the opportunity to explore a mini-project with this architectural firm. I planned and designed a backyard add-on loft for a residential home.
