Research Engineer
Current- Develop new or improve existing products and processes from ideation to production utilizing engineering design methodology. Document and report using project management systems.- Perform and direct investigations of product and process improvements in areas such as corrosion mitigation, coatings & linings, welding, material properties, machine design, cost reduction, environmental impact, and life cycle improvement.- Utilize computer-aided design, computational analysis simulations, statistical analysis, and rapid prototyping in product development and manufacturing support.- Provide technical support for sales and manufacturing divisions including specific training, complaint investigations, failure analysis, and root cause analysis.- Manage the manufacture of new and existing products through development, continuous improvement, training coordination, and certification procedures. - Manage personnel and supervise product testing in research laboratory and other locations as needed.- Lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary continuous improvement projects through data acquisition and analysis.- Plan, coordinate, install, and report on remote projects for company-owned experimental test sites, customer job sites, and research organization experiments throughout the United States.- Develop corrosion mitigation solutions through experimentation and data acquired through historical archives and active corrosion monitoring sites. - Investigate new materials (metals, polymer, ceramics, and composites) that can improve existing products regarding cost, sustainability, performance, and longevity. - Collaborate with outside professionals, organizations, and academic institutions for research and development projects. - Manage and coordinate multiple research projects utilizing the phase-gate process in accordance to internal and external specifications.
