Mitchel Peterr Hansen work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Supportive Family Housing Social Worker
I was a supportive family housing case manager at St. Stephens, now Agate Housing. This was the most challenging job I've had and it showed me how the system really works and where it doesn't. I worked with amazing people at this job and did my best to support the 20 families on my caseload.
Licensed Social Worker
Social Worker
My position at Prism was very dynamic and allowed me to engage in macro and micro social work practice. I had 30-50 caseloads per day, aiding participants with situations including eviction prevention, domestic violence, food insecurity, housing, health care assistance, and CADI waiver assistance. I developed an innovate language guide built on phonetic reasoning that has now been instituted agency-wide, and designed a "Poverty 101" training for volunteers and nonprofit staff which is completely unique in scope.
School Social Worker Intern @ Central High
I was a social worker for the Fall semester, providing counseling, case management, group therapy, individual therapy, assessment, intervention, analysis, and evaluation. I had a case load of 30 students, and experienced great results as a support for 9-12th grade students with IEP’s.
Youth Program Facilitator & Summer Internship
I worked for RJCA from May 2017-September 2017 for my field placement through the University of Minnesota School of Social Work Masters Program. I was in charge of many youth justice cases throughout this experience that focused on giving youth a diversionary opportunity away from the traditional justice system of punishment, social stratification, and summary judgment. I was in charge of many cases throughout this experience, and was in charge of everything from intake and evaluation, to sending final documentation to the courts for the dismissal of charges. It was a beautiful experience, and it changed me. Giving youth a chance to repair harm, sometimes regarding charges for the most menial offenses, is a vital element of our society.
Special Education Paraprofessional
River Bend Education Center is a school in Minneapolis Public Schools that is filled with awesome staff who are dedicated to working with children who have the most severe Emotional/Behavioral Disorders in the Twin Cities. I was a Paraprofessional for a specialty class called "SAIL" for 4th-5th grade students who are severely below grade level. I had the privilege of teaching a group of kids that have grown up and lived in extremely adverse domestic situations, many of which have mental health complications as a result, or have innate disabilities that make it even harder for them to operate in a mainstream school. They desperately need encouragement, reassurance, and safety, which I was honored to provide.
Volunteer- Coach, Webmaster, & Fundraiser
I help coach and run the city of St. Paul's Special Olympics team—the St. Paul Magic. Our team is filled with courageous athletes and families who have all come together to share the wonderful experience that Special Olympics Minnesota provides. Currently, I coach snowboarding, bocce ball, track & field, flag football, basketball and bowling, I plan to coach many more sports as our team grows and we draw even more interest from families and athletes. I adore the privilege of working with such caring, fun, and intelligent people, as well as determined young athletes.
Personal Care Assistant & Independent Living Skills Worker
I am a PCA (Personal Care Assistant) and ILS (Independent Living Skills) worker for a lovely young man in South Minneapolis. His parents have an incredibly unique program set in place for him and I am thrilled to be part of such a determined, warm, and innovative approach to grooming our young men and women with disabilities for a life of independence and prosperity.
President
I am the President of the non profit "I Hear You, I Feel You, I Got You Foundation" as well as several other key positions at a non profit located here in the Twin Cities. We provide programs, events, and other services to children with mental illness, disabilities, at-risk youth, as well as other members of the youth population. We focus on mental health awareness via targeting specific stigmas—including, but certainly not limited to — (mental) disorders, illnesses and syndromes, as well as physical disabilities, certain types of viruses and physiological conditions...and the list goes on. I'm very excited to take this position and I plan to introduce some very innovative ways of advocating. Let's do this thing.
Volunteer
Volunteer- Teacher
Daniel Zamzow—a longstanding volunteer—drew me into the organization by discussing the movement with an incredible amount of passion and dedication. A.C.M.E.'s mission statement reads: To build stronger community relationships by providing social change opportunities through means of classical music by providing instruments, lessons and music education courses for all interested students regardless of financial, social or physical status. Each student will participate in the A.C.M.E. program for 12 years. A.C.M.E. is a non-profit organization with the fundamental belief that every child has a born-given right to learn music - regardless of social, financial or physical status. - you cannot inspire social change without first strengthening the heart! I have the honor of working with a very special group of 1st and 2nd grade classes at Nellie Stone Johnson Community School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I assist Mr. Zamzow with his classes and help the children in any way that I can, which includes helping them with their homework, supervising outdoor and indoor activities, as well as encouraging and guiding musical performance. It is a privilege to be able to work with a group of incredibly talented musicians that have bonded together to push for a wonderful cause.
Volunteer- Promotional Filmmaker
I created two promotional videos for a company called Can Do Canines Assistance Dogs. I produced the videos from the filming stage to the final cut with the assistance of several professionals in the industry. I continue to support and aid Can Do Canines in any way possible. Can Do Canines is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities gain independence.
Supported Employment Specialist
I was a supported employment specialist at Cooperating Community Partnerships. I worked with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities all around the Twin Cities area and I train them for whichever career path they desire to follow. I also secured positions for them by advocating for inclusion throughout the community and securing relationships with caring organizations. My job involved many different things, but at the root of it is a push to ensure that individuals with disabilities can pursue a career in the field that they want and to help them enter the workforce on their own terms. Equality is the name of the game.
Sound Recorder/Mixer/Soundtrack Editor
I recorded, mixed, and produced sound for the Independent Film, "Francesca", which was featured in the Wisconsin Film Festival. In addition, I was the sound editor for a pilot called "Man, Myth, Legend". Contact: Justin Daering Phone: 213-537-8285
