With an annual budget of under $25,000, the association successfully manages 20-22 teams each spring in ages from four to fourteen. Southside Ball is considered one of the most diverse baseball programs in Alabama.

Assistant ManagerCarolina Movie Theatre Jun 1976 - Aug 1981As a high school student determined to pay my way, I found early employment via a work permit at age 14. The options were to bag groceries or work at a movie theatre. I delivered newspapers to a historic grand old stage theatre that was built in the early 1900's and converted into a 613 seat movie theatre. I started by greeting movie goers by tearing their tickets and selling conscessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. As I got older and learned about the practices of the movie theatre business, I advanced to running the projectors, closing the ticket sales office, closing the concession stand and ultimately performing the daily bookkeeeping services to account for the daily sales activity by category. Ultimately, I made the nightly deposits at the bank lock box and closed the theatre down at night after the last 9 or 10 PM show. Many life lessons were learned early by these experiences!
