I took on this role with Sunburst, an owner/operator of hotels nationwide including Choice Hotels’ branded locations, to increase revenue from corporate and leisure travelers. During this time, I increased their profitability, revenue, and occupancy rates by transitioning away from tour operators, finding creative new ways to more efficiently utilize rooms, and becoming an early adopter of internet and eCommerce sales opportunities. After signing on with Hotels.com (1-800-HOTELS at the time) and another online company, our sales grew 250% faster than any other Choice hotel and over-delivered on their internet-driven revenue goals by 1,000% causing Sunburst corporate leadership to visit to learn what we were doing differently. We also achieved occupancy rates of OVER 100% by launching and marketing day rates for LAX travelers with long airport layovers. I left Sunburst in 1999 so that I could help more hotels leverage the internet to drive sales growth.
