Dr. Mitra Assadi serves as the Medical Director of Practice Optimization for the Neuroscience Department at ChristianaCare. With over 20 years of experience, she holds certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Headache Medicine.Dr. Assadi’s research interests focus on neurogenetics and pediatric migraine. She has published numerous journal articles in these areas and holds an academic appointment as a Professor of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School. She is an international expert on a childhood genetic leukodystrophy known as Canavan disease and has participated in an NIH-sponsored gene therapy trial for this condition. Her publication on using lithium for Canavan disease has established the standard of care for these children. She has received 13 Top Doctor awards from various publications in New Jersey over the past ten years.The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded Dr. Assadi funding to launch a research protocol entitled “Enhancing Behavioral and Cognitive Outcomes in Autism via Neuro-stimulation which involves using transcranial magnetic stimulation for autism spectrum disorder. TMS is a novel approach currently being tested for various neurological disorders, including autism.
