As a Youth Leader, my main role is to facilitate workshops for the College Readiness Program for students in El Monte School District. These workshops prepare students for college and include topics such as enrolling in classes, completing the FAFSA application, and more. These informational workshops give students a greater understanding and better prepares them to successfully matriculate from high school to college. I also help provide academic, personal, and career advice to a diverse student population.

I work with various community organizations, educational institutions, and other public agencies to develop programs that will improve educational and employment outcomes. The programs that are being developed and implemented assist with removing barriers that ensure foster youth who are transitioning out of foster care have a greater chance of completing a post-secondary education, connecting to on campus support programs (EOPS, Guardians Scholars, etc.), obtaining employment and not exiting foster care to homelessness.

Monterey Park, California, United States

Provided direct support to foster youth to assist them with successfully navigating and completing their terms of probation, so they can get back on their path to achieving their educational and career goals. Worked closely with relevant agencies, including Probation and DCFS, to identify and address systemic obstacles and opportunities for improvement. Ensured that youth has appropriate educational support, mental health assessments, independent living skills, and reproductive health/parenting services by connecting them to community partners and resources.

Worked with community and school personnel as well as partner agencies to implement a comprehensive and coordinated youth program that included, homework assistance, work preparation programs, enrichment, arts and recreation activities, and college preparation workshops.Coordinated and facilitated workshops for students from high school to college that assisted with preparing for post-secondary education and employment (college searches, college application, completing FAFSA, enrolling in classes, finding scholarships, resumes, and cover letters).
