Design company based out of NY and Italy specializing in commercial artwork, corporate identity, product packaging, logos and communications.

Balance grew out of IP discovered at Harrison Burnet. We took Australian flowers with remedial health properties and infused them into spring water while keeping it flavorless. I was responsible for funding the company, designing the packaging and US Sales and Marketing into our eventual presence in 6,000 stores across the US. I also worked out of an office in our ad agency, Droga5 for 9 months and learned the Ad Agency business from the inside out from one of the best in the business. Without a significant competitive marketing budget we struggled to compete in the US market against Coke, Pepsi, Nestle and Dr. Pepper. Snapple I left the company amicably. The company is expanding successfully into Asian markets. This was invaluable CPG experience and taught me a great deal about consumer behavior and consumer purchasing habits.

Lexiquest was a 120 person company that was financed by Oak Investment Partners. Lexiquest was involved in Computational Linguistics. Essentially the technology allowed searching of large unstructured data sets using plain English queries. It parsed language via grammar and dictionaries versus bayesian algorithms. Lexiquest was a precursor to Ask Jeeves though far more accurate. I was hired by an Oak Partner and Stanford Professor, Dr. Norman Nie to work with the ex-Sorbonne University team of research scientists in Paris.

I worked with the European Sales Force and Product Development teams on emerging technology and industry specific applications.

Silverstream Software was a Java middleware server that allowed for rapid development of web clients connected to highly scalable relational database back ends. I was one of the first sales people and was responsible for the NE Sales. Silverstream was taken public by Morgan Stanley in a highly successful IPO and several years later was bought by Novell.

Firefly was a collaborative filtering software company. The technology originated in the MIT media lab where Pattie Maes was a pioneer in intelligent recommendation software. Software that is now common in most e-commerce applications. The "If you liked X then you might also like Y" sections. Firefly was purchased by Microsoft.

Watermark was a groundbreaking Image enabling software company. I was responsible for Sales. It grew to 140 employees and was purchased by Filenet. Inc.
