I'm an engineering leader with over 20 years experience in the specification, design, manufacturing, deployment, and support of semiconductors, embedded systems, and cloud-native applications. In my present role, I lead the engineering team at Metron-Farnier where we are developing a toolset of products to help solve the emerging water scarcity issues in the world. Our team covers the full technology stack from capacitor to cloud, and is made up of cloud and mobile developers, embedded and mechanical engineers, test and QA engineers, and data scientists/analysts. I am also heavily involved with crafting the forward-looking strategy of the company. My experience has been built around system-level architecture and design driven by distilling customer needs and identifying emerging market trends. Many factors have to be considered in the development of a new product including feature set, design partitioning, component selection, manufacturing effort/cost, support model, and time to market. Finding the optimal solution to meet demanding business and technical requirements, and leading the execution of that effort to a win is what gets me amped!Specialties: System design/architecture * SaaS * IIoT product design * Product roadmap development * Manufacturing/supply chain * Strategy

Vice President Of EngineeringMetron Farnier - Smart Water Meters Mar 2022 - PresentBoulder , Co, Us -
Vice President Of EngineeringFreewave Technologies Nov 2020 - Mar 2022Boulder, Colorado, UsMy role was expanded to include strategy and product roadmap development based on what was accomplished in the Director role. I was increasingly involved in product positioning and planning of the FreeWave ecosystem. I was part of performing due diligence on a strategic acquisition, as well as system integration work with our lead customers. During this time, FreeWave landed it's first strategic customer agreement based on the pivot in the product portfolio. -
Director Of EngineeringFreewave Technologies Mar 2020 - Nov 2020Boulder, Colorado, UsI was hired to help rejuvenate and re-shape a lagging engineering team that hadn’t shipped a new product in over 3 years. In the first 6 months, the team was re-formed to get the proper skillsets in place to meet the roadmap, as FreeWave was pivoting into an IIoT systems/solutions provider. We released an updated version of our custom Linux OS, 3 updated proprietary radios in the 900MHz and 1.3GHz spectrums (one including extensible industrial I/O), and we released the first true software application in the history of FreeWave. -
Vice President Of EngineeringDerive Systems Sep 2018 - Mar 2020Sanford, Florida, UsPromoted to take over management of all firmware resources and part of QA because those functions were struggling to meet deadlines and release cadences. Re-organized the team around a product-focused vision, and actively worked to harmonize disparate development environments and code bases to maximize re-use and cross-training of Derive’s product offerings. Within 6 months, the teams’ overall velocity had improved 27% and released bugs had declined 43%. I formed Derive's first product R&D team with a focus on common design patterns, definition of a common kernel/HAL implementation, and moving all vehicle network communications to an event-driven, stack-based model. I managed a cross-functional team across 3 physical sites that includes electronics/PCB development, mechanicaldesign, manufacturing support, supply chain/purchasing, embedded firmware development, and test/quality engineering. -
Director Of Embedded Systems EngineeringDerive Systems Feb 2017 - Sep 2018Sanford, Florida, UsI was the first hire for Derive's new Colorado location. As the only employee on the Front Range, I was tasked with interviewing/growing our leadership team, and assisting with the build-out of our office location. I led the electrical, mechanical, and RF design and development of Derive's "VQ" platform. The device is a telematics-style OBD2 dongle w/ onboard GPS, LTE, BLE, and WiFi that enables not only traditional fleet telematics, but also advanced vehicle tuning and driver safety applications. The design progressed from kickoff to manufacturing ramp in < 1 year and included 3 PCBs, a custom flex LTE antenna, and a custom 6-piece plastic enclosure. Our team also developed device-specific environmental, test, and manufacturing hardware and software to enable certifications and 3rd party manufacturing. -
Systems/Applications Engineer -- Lead Embedded EngineerTexas Instruments Dec 2013 - Feb 2017Dallas, Tx, UsLead embedded engineer working on high-end automotive exterior lighting systems including AFL/ADB headlights, welcome lighting, and animated turn. Defined and supported the TPS92661, the industry's first integrated high-brightness LED matrix manager for automotive headlight systems. Support all power electronics IC development with MCU interfaces and develop controlling firmware/software/GUIs for demonstration of the group's LED current regulators/controllers. -
Systems Development Engineer - Intelligent LightingTexas Instruments Sep 2011 - Dec 2013Dallas, Tx, UsArchitect and develop intelligent, integrated lighting solutions based on Texas Instruments' broad portfolio of MCU/DSP, power management, and lighting power products. Intelligent lighting includes sensor-based designs, wired and wireless control and telemetry communications channels, and automated lighting systems. -
Systems Development EngineerNational Semiconductor Jun 2010 - Sep 2011Embedded systems engineer for National's Solid State Lighting group. Architecting and developing LED drivers and ballasts to enable next generation smart lighting platforms. Smart platforms are sensor-based, programmable, and able to integrate communications infrastructure as required by the installation/architecture. -
Systems EngineerNational Semiconductor May 2003 - Jun 2010Responsible for the vast majority of systems level development within my group supporting approximately 45 engineers worldwide with hardware. Involved in all aspects of systems development from initial requirements, architecture, schematic capture, layout, manufacturing, turn-on, and development support. Systems range from internal IC evaluation kits to larger, CPU and FPGA-based IP development platforms. Also explored and developed Wireless Sensor Network technologies and applications for sensing and detection market segment. -
Systems Design Engineer/Co-FounderSnowdroid Industries, Inc. Jan 2002 - Jan 2003Principal hardware engineer for AI-driven robotic proof-of-concept. Involved from concept/architecture through turn-on. Dealt with all aspects of the robot's hardware including sensors, processing, communication, motors/actuators, and chassis/mechanicals. Aided in development of robotic firmware/middleware in both C and assembly. Helped develop signal processing algorithms to enable tracking and triangulation of both PIR and audio.
