About Mary-Jo Gellenbeck

My career in active transportation launched when my 15 year old twins opted out of earning a Driver's License. Living in a city with a car-centric transportation system, their decision piqued my curiosity and began my research into transportation policies that influenced the system. I set about to change the influences to advance an integrated mobility transportation system that meets the needs of our future. Why? Because I'm a mom.Transportation systems are more than just moving people and products, it's an ecosystem that breaths life into your community. It's as essential to the health and well-being of individuals, its communities and their economies as water is to life. Today, I serve on the City of Raleigh's Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission and its Planning Committee. My work as Oaks and Spokes Safe Routes To School Program Coordinator utilizes my skills in developing and leading educational programming.
