Tasked with multiple, overlapping assignments requiring effective use of time management and multi-tasking skills. • Led team in development of prototype for Unified Communications Server based on Nortel core service framework and Media Application Server. • Rolled out Java-based persistence framework for core services with personally designed extensions for SQL statement and callable object caching. Investigated JVM implementations (IBM, BEA/Appeal JRockit) for suitability within a Linux (Red Hat Linux 7.1) environment; required CPU, memory, and garbage collection analysis. • Led an “Enterprise Fit” feature to condense solution down onto small enterprise-class servers (traffic, performance analysis, JVM parameter engineering). Conducted high-level design, implementation, and integration of four software components into system based on LynxOS RTOS; Components: hardware data access layer, polling engine, event distribution engine, card slot state machine/monitoring framework. • Implemented system in C, with sub-component frameworks isolated by well-defined APIs. Managed Plano operations for California-based Integrated Access device (IAD) company including project definition, local area networking, ISP and VPN to main office, phone service, printing and faxing facilities. Projects included porting of a frame-relay based DSLAM (Digital Subscribe Line Access Module) IAD device to an ATM based DSLAM, and assumption of responsibility for a VoDSL (voice over DSL) IAD.

Developed VoIP services in a NetFX services (Java) framework for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Led a multi-site effort to port Java implementation of the SIP client to a Nortel embedded IP phone on VxWorks RTOS under PJWorks (WindRiver implementation of Personal Java 3.0 specification). Originated/collaborated on SIP-related patents.

Responsible for service definition for Personal Agent and originating/terminating screening services for the NISA program—a feature-rich services platform in the IP space providing cutting-edge multi-media services for enterprise and residential markets.

Manager responsible for implementation of the ISUP interface for the initial release of C-ADS, a next generation distributed switch. Initial targeted functionality was a Feature Group D (FGD) 1+ protocol over an ATM backbone.

Led a highly experienced team in the implementation of the GR-1129 protocol specification for the Nortel NetworkBuilder (Carrier GR-1128 AIN) product. Implemented for PRI and SS7.

Researched the requirements for the integration of two complex frameworks—Network Builder (Nortel carrier implementation of AIN protocol) and Flexdial (framework for flexible, customer-definable, data-driven trunking dial plans). Interfaced with two large teams of developers, produced detailed functional and design specifications and subsequently led a six-person team to implement the integration.

Team leader of a trial project to implement various concepts of “direct platform testing” of the DMS base. Worked with, and coordinated, a 60-person contract team from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in India, in addition to a local three-person team.

Member of a group tasked with developing information representation and test strategies for the newly productized base and platform layer (operating system and telecommunications layer) of the DMS family of switching products. Coordinated software submissions for an accelerated development cycle to decouple DMS software layers.
