Studio Photographer | Media Production Assistant

Central Coast, Ca

Studio photographer and in-house graphic designer for a manufacturing company. Really Right Stuff designs and makes support gear for cameras, cinema gear, and rifles: tripods, ballheads, quick-release plates, etc. I was responsible for photographing new products, then editing and uploading them to the company website, followed by generating website sliders and graphics for social media and newsletters. For a time I was the only other employee in the Marketing Department, so my responsibilities also included coding website listings in HTML, implementing integration with a large distributor (B&H), writing and analyzing client surveys for thousands of participants (relied heavily on my Sociology training), proofreading documents and official publications, sending out media kits for magazine features, preparing for trade shows, hosting high-profile visitors, and other tasks. When it came time to expand the team, I also posted job notices, fielded applicants, conducted screening interviews, and joined the hiring panel for 2nd and 3rd-tier applicants. I worked closely with the Marketing Director to identify business goals & priorities, allocate resources, and refine processes.I started making efficiency improvements to the studio and editing processes (ie. I utilized a system of keyboard macros and a streamlined order of operations to cut editing time in half while improving quality twice over. I also began making recommendations for company-wide processes to reduce errors and re-work in the product lifecycle system, and re-organized the company's server file structure to make finding documents 3x’s as fast). The Marketing Director noticed, and said "I think your talents can be better used elsewhere." Three months after starting at the company, I was promoted to Assistant Product Manager. I now maintain the product lifecycle, which tends to each project from customer research to design to manufacturing to release to retirement.

Interim Receptionist

After the Support Coordinator retired, MJ stepped in to the Cuesta Fine Arts & Performing Arts Department to help the Department Head manage both her job and the Support Coordinator's job until a new employee arrived.MJ quickly picked up the office routine and took over front desk responsibilities so the Department Head, Magnolia Stork, could focus on the Support Coordinator's tasks. MJ fielded questions from students, staff and faculty, prepared large batches of printed material for the college, kept daily office & mail operations running smoothly, fielded digital messaging, and designed fliers and tickets for an upcoming jazz concert.Of the experience, Magnolia said:"MJ Johnson came to us during a time of transition, and stepped right into a chaotic and stressful situation with a confidence and calmness that I appreciated immensely.MJ is highly professional and has a diverse skillset that lends itself to a variety of situations. I could trust her to be professional in working with the public and handling unusual situations. If she doesn't know the answer to someone's question, she is adept at finding the answer. I felt like I could also ask her to design a form or a flyer with little guidance and have it come out looking better than I would have hoped for.MJ has a calm demeanor and a good sense of humor. She is pleasant to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend her for any position."
