Melissa MacGregor is a senior research manager at Microsoft. Melissa has an extensive background in analytics research with a particular eye for global trends. She is also a NASA Datanaut alum and a member of AAPOR. Melissa sharpened her skillset via Notre Dame's Master of Business Analytics program, where she partnered with IBM to better leverage Watson's NLU capabilities. Prior obtaining her MSBA, she completed coursework at UC Berkeley, Stanford, Tufts and Yahoo Data Academy. Her focus has predominantly been on methodology and innovation work.While working at Yahoo, Melissa's research centered on trends within behavioral segmentation. She worked on Mail, News, Sports, Search, Tumblr and Finance. Before Yahoo, she was at Motista, where she studied the emotional connectedness among consumers via the firm's proprietary data. Research during her tenure was published in Harvard Business Review. Melissa first moved to San Francisco to join Ketchum Global Research & Analytics, where she worked on survey research, reputation measurement, news monitoring (trad/social), deep-dive trend analyses, focus group moderating and global intelligence reports for F500 companies. Her clients included Chase, HP, Hyundai, Intel, Liberty Mutual and Sony.She graduated from Goshen College with a BA in History and a minor in International Studies. Melissa was selected as a GC Maple Scholar, where she conducted a qualitative case study on grief. The study was selected by the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. During college, Melissa also conducted quantitative studies, familiarizing herself with Qualtrics, NVivo, survey development and applied statistics. She also was heavily involved in student government, orchestra and the chemistry department. Before moving to the West Coast, Melissa volunteered as an immigration paralegal via Americorps and Mennonite Voluntary Service in South Texas.
