Postdoctoral Fellow | Research Associate
In this position, I used fMRI and neuropsychological testing to study working memory and processing speed in clinical patients. I worked on two independent projects. I also had extensive experience in grant writing. 1. UTSW-VA Gulf War Illness projectIn this project we tested veterans of the first Gulf War for changes in cognition and other health issues that may have resulted from working in the war conditions. I managed our lab's portion of this project. This included writing progress reports for the VA, assuring staff coverage of meetings and data collection, and weekly data collection. 2. UTSW MS Clinic to determine underlying cognition issues in MS patients In this project we collected fMRI and neuropsychological data on cognition measures including working memory and processing speed. We hoped to determine if the underlying cognitive deficit was working memory, processing speed or combination of both measures.June 2009 - received the inaugural UTD Friends of BrainHealth Distinguished New Scientist Award. The funding from this award was used to collect pilot data for my Multiple Sclerosis project. With this funding I designed, conducted, and collected data in a research study to determine processing speed deficits in Multiple Sclerosis with fMRI and neuropsychological testing. I built a collaborative relationship between the Center for BrainHealth the Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Center.
