Knightscope was founded in April 2013 as a response to the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook and the Boston bombings. Their goal is a an affordable platform to reduce both crime and the economic burden it places on every facet of society with the right fusion of technologies and social engagement. Knightscope’s autonomous technology platform is a fusion of robotics, predictive analytics, and collaborative social engagement utilized to predict and prevent crime.Knightscope entrusted my Solidworks skills with CAD re-engineering of parts to be used in their new PDM system, as well as documenting the parts and assemblies and generating part drawings to be used for manufacturing.

Oculus Research is driving the state of the art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, advanced optics, eye tracking, mixed reality, and new ways to map the human body.How do you quantify what is really happening when your expert game players say they are losing because of software lag that the average user cannot perceive?.. I was brought in to help automate software testing by designing and implementing a platform utilizing industrial robot arms and custom software. Development included working with Facilities and EHS teams to include appropriate safety systems and install robot systems in several labs across the country.

Amazon Lab126 is an inventive R&D company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronic devices such as: Fire tablets, Kindle Voyage, Amazon Fire TV, and Amazon Echo.After a year of inventing several table-top robotic systems for the SWQA Team, I seized the opportunity to move to the Product Design Group to challenge and grow my Program Management (PM) skills. As a member of the Prototyping, Automation, and Calibration (PAC) Team, I get my hands dirty in creating and building large-scale automated systems which enable the development of future Amazon devices.As a PM, I lead our projects from concept development, through prototyping, to fully operational system. My first project on the PAC Team included bringing together three different business partners to define and align specifications, create scope, roadmap, and timeline, and manage the design and build schedules. I delivered a high quality, fully-functional system that met the needs and requirements of all key stakeholders in just 6 short months, a record breaking delivery time on my team! This included documenting the entire project as well as partnering with the Lab Safety Team, to ensure our system integrated and met all OSHA requirements prior to delivery. This project surfaced my passion for managing chaos in an ever-changing environment, while working to bring cutting edge ideas to life!When I’m not designing robots or managing projects, I build on my passion for developing culture. A perfect example of this is when I took it upon myself to reach out to HR Business Partners to learn more about Lab126 culture. I was invited to several meetings with our executive leadership team to explore Lab’s current culture state and ideate future possibilities. After a great brainstorm session, I was selected to lead a high-level team focused on creating an internal brand for the lab, developing a communication strategy, and creating consistency with branding across our different business lines.

Amazon Lab126 is an inventive R&D company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronic devices such as: Fire tablets, Kindle Voyage, Amazon Fire TV, and Amazon Echo.As a Mechatonics Engineer on the Software Peripherals QA Team, my role was to design and build robots that enabled automation of quality assurance regression testing. Prior to products launching, I was responsible for collaborating with development teams to conduct a needs analysis of their test cases and create a custom robotic solution. Playing on my passion for innovation, I designed and built a variety of unique methods and systems for testing input functions. This included unique hardware solutions to mimic human functions of touch, swipe, acceleration, rotation, and button press, with high degrees of accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility. Noticing that the systems would be better utilized by QA Techs if they could be connected directly to Amazon’s internal systems, I took on the challenge of teaching myself Python. My APIs not only allowed users to download measured data from the microprocessors, but also enabled them to develop advanced robotic functions and autonomous test scripts, in an environment that’s familiar to them.

The Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL) is a part of the global research and development network that supports the Volkswagen Group brands. These brands include Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and VW. Located in Silicon Valley, the ERL draw's upon its innovation spirit to build new concepts and technologies for our future vehicles.I enjoy the ability to combine my knowledge of engineering with my creativity to invent new, novel, and intuitive interfaces for the automotive industry. For example, I designed, developed, and integrated several unique HMI concepts in 3 months which were featured in the Ital Design / Giugiaro “Brivido” show car at the Geneva 2012 Auto Show.My involvement at the ERL goes beyond my degree, and I am also an active contributor to developing the unique Silicon Valley culture at the workplace. As a member of the Innovation Activists Team, I pitched the idea for a monthly “Innovation Challenge” day to the ERL Management Team and received support to develop and execute the challenge day.

Speck Design is an engineering design firm helping start-up and established companies to engineer their products for production. Speck specializes in product design and development in the medical, industrial, automotive, data communications, and retail and consumer industries. Speck has developed hundreds of product patents and has generated billions of dollars in revenue for clients through their design and engineering solutions.At Speck, I was thrown onto a team as they were half-way through their current product solution. Given my desire to build new things, I jumped on the task of constructing full-scale mock-ups of a robotic system. I outfitted my system model with alternative options that were evaluated by the entire team for their creativity, effectiveness, and design.For me, this was a unique experience that allowed me to participate in the design, review, and creative processes of a small design company. In this fast-paced environment, creating and implementing ideas happened very quickly, if not at the same time. However, I learned that the right people were always on the job to ensure the best results for the customer.

iRobot designs and builds robots that make a difference. iRobot was founded in 1990 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology roboticists with the vision of making practical robots a reality. iRobot not only builds the home-friendly Roomba, but they also offer many Military, Government, and Industrial robotic solutions.iRobot’s mission is: Build Cool Stuff, Deliver Great Products, Make Money, Have Fun, and Change the World. During my internship with iRobot,I got to do just that! Creating robots turned solving complex problems into playtime for even the most structured engineers. This was my first experience in rapid prototyping, and I quickly grew to love it AND the R&D environment.My team's specific project goal was to change the world by using the endless possibilities of our imaginations. Working with great minds at MIT and Harvard University, I was exposed to many unique ideas and thought processes. I aspire to apply my engineering knowledge with the same enthusiasm to all my future endeavors.

Swissturn/USA is a different kind of Swiss screw machine job shop. What makes them different from most CNC Swiss screw machine job shops? It’s probably their commitment to change. They’re constantly investing in new equipment, rearranging our shop floor, changing their procedures, training their employees, even refining processes for jobs that they have run for 20 years.I was lucky enough to spend 2 internships at Swissturn/USA, learning new aspects of engineering, while also taking on challenges that pushed my knowledge and abilities. As part of Swissturn/USA’s initiative to constantly evolve, I also designed and assembled a data acquisition interface system for CNC machine monitoring. The system provided never-before-seen computer, email, and SMS alert messages to the operators.
