I am currenty the Innovation Specialist at Franklin Middle School. Previously, I was a sixth grade educator at Franklin where I taught one section of reading, three to four sections of social studies, and one section of social studies challenge. As part of this position, I have also joined the PBIS and Academic and Career Planning (ACP) teams and was active in Discovery Education and Ignite My Future initiatives. I continue ro be a #DENStar and lead these initiatives. Prior to this position, I was a middle school teacher where I teach sixth grade 21st century skills, seventh grade communication arts, and eighth grade transitions. I designed 21st century skills in 2015 to give the entering sixth grade students an understanding of important technology skills needed for their middle school career. In 2006, I designed communication arts class in 2006 to meet the Wisconsin State Standards in the area of technology. In 2013, I updated the comm. arts curriculum and aligned it to the Common Core Standards with an emphasis on literacy. At this time, I began implementing a flipped classroom, stations, genius hour, and other 21st Century teaching techniques. I have pushed for the implementation of technological devices such as SMARTBoards in all classrooms and was a trailblazer in the middle school and the entire district. I have even been featured in two local newspapers for the use of such technology. In 2009, I began teaching transitions. This is a class focusing on preparing eighth grade students for high school and beyond. The main areas of focus of the class include self-esteem, careers, and diversity/tolerance. It is through this course that I began to secure numerous media reports and national speakers and became a co-advisor for the Pride in Diversity Club.Specialties: Parent outreach, educational technologies, marketing, and public relations
