Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Trauma Division• Screen, recruit, and enroll patients with complex acute injuries into investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored trials to improve treatment of limb fractures, optimize functional outcomes, and increase quality of life in this population. • Determine eligibility of and gather informed consent from study participants according to research protocols and regulations. • Collect biomechanical data for range of motion, gait, weight-bearing, topographical 3D limb scanning, and surgical intervention.• Conduct subject follow-up visits and ensure accurate data documentation on Case Report Forms. • Coordinate IRB submission/revisions, study start-up and close-out, and all administrative clinical research tasks for 20+ studies.

The Health Advocacy DeCal • Lectured on public health topics such as social determinants of health, health justice, health economics and policy, basic needs security, public benefits, and navigating social services as pertinent to low-income populations in the Bay Area.• Developed learning objectives, implemented lesson plans, and fostered discussion-based learning for 25 undergraduate students.• Equipped students with the knowledge and tools for health advocacy, training them to become potential volunteers for the Health Advocates of Alameda Health System program.

• Developed a pre-recruitment education curriculum and trained 100+ members on values-based recruitment, mechanics, and etiquette. • Planned and executed fall primary recruitment for 600+ women in accordance with collegiate chapter, Panhellenic, and university policies. • Recruited a new member class of 53 women in Fall 2018 which exceeded campus quota for new member intake that year.• Maintained an overall member retention rate of 96% for the duration of my year-long term.

Cancer Developmental Biology Lab• Investigated the in vitro dynamics of DNA damage, replication, and cell division in cisplatin-resistant lung adenocarcinoma. • Conducted experiments to elucidate mechanisms of chemotherapeutic resistance, e.g. human tissue culture, western blots, drug resistance assays, and immunofluorescence microscopy, resulting in the identification of a novel potential target protein.• Presented my findings to the principal investigator and senior research team at the culmination of my internship.

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Spine Center• Collected biomechanical data using Microsoft Kinect to assess balance and range of motion in patients with spinal deformities to determine whether dynamic spinal motion is predictive of postsurgical outcome for spinal fusion surgery candidates. • Shadowed physician follow-up visits, recruited/screened patients for eligibility, enrolled participants into the study, and obtained informed consent following Food and Drug Administration Good Clinical Practice guidelines. • Extracted data from electronic health records, maintained study database, and aided in creation of tables for manuscript.
