Software ArchitectIcecube Consulting Ltd Aug 1998 - Oct 1998I joined Icecube Consulting to act as the software architect working on a feasibility study for a carrier-class Voice/Fax/Modem over IP system. The hardware and software architecture was completed, and shown to be a technically outstanding design. However, the financial case for a small Scottish company competing in the carrier-class market against large US corporations and multinational telephone companies could not be justified, and the project never moved beyond the feasibility study. This was, however, an excellent learning period for me. I had a chance to spend 3 months immersing myself in Voice over IP technology, and considering how I could build a product that was two or three years ahead of the market.
