I am the NZX Participant Compliance Manager for Sharesies. Within that role, I am responsible for ensuring compliance with the NZX Participant Rules. More broadly, I work with an awesome Risk & Compliance team to help the business make informed and risk-based decisions, and to ensure that the various processes and procedures followed by the business every day are functioning correctly and optimally, to keep customers and their assets safe, as well as to get the best business outcomes for Sharesies.

Closing the Gap's mission is to close the gender investment gap. We work towards this goal by providing workshops and other practical materials to help women begin their investing journey. I am the technical lead in the team, which involves designing and managing our website, administrating our online presence (email accounts, Slack, shared file management, etc) and recently producing and editing our podcast.

I provide legal services and advice to all areas of Trade Me, but primarily to the Technology vertical (including payments, infrastructure and security). Key areas of law I have advised on include privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property and competition, as well as reviewing and drafting commercial agreements and otherwise assisting with the procurement process.I have also built, and continue to develop and maintain, a bespoke matter management system to work with Google Workspace (using Javascript and Google Apps Script). Amongst other functions, this enables consistent matter creation, email archiving and contract management practices across the team.

Implemented innovative technologies and processes to ensure that Russell McVeagh's service offering remains current and relevant for its clients. As a part of the Banking and Finance team, I have prepared advice on financial laws, NZX rules and other financial regulations (including AML and FSP regimes) for banks, listed companies and FinTechs, worked on debt capital market and corporate financing transactions, and was a junior to the authors of the New Zealand chapter of the Virtual Currencies Regulation Review.

Completing the graduate programme at Russell McVeagh was the best possible way to begin my career in the legal profession. With access to the knowledge and resources that come with being one of the best law firms in the country, I was able to quickly develop my interests in anti-money laundering and FinTech (financial services technology), combining the two with my existing interests in technology and programming.

My role was to assist with MCo’s anti-money laundering audit and the review of its internal policies. I also completed various other smaller tasks for the risk and compliance team.

While on secondment at the Ministry of Justice from Russell McVeagh, I worked with the anti-money laundering policy development team to develop policy and draft that regulations which include real estate agents and the New Zealand Racing Board in New Zealand's Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism regime.

As a summer clerk at Russell McVeagh, I experienced what I was like to work at of one of the top commercial law firms in New Zealand. I was a part of the finance and litigation teams, with which I completed a number of research projects across a range of legal issues and gained experience with large commercial transactions. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and was delighted to accept a graduate position at the end of the summer.
