However, lentiviral transduction is sufficient for in vitro gene transfers but it did not act as a competent vehicle for in vivo studies investigating the underlying mechanisms of atrial fibrillation. The promoter regions of genes involved in neural transmission are helpful tools in pinpointing the cells that play role in the disease. Main project 2: Comparison of miRNA content of cardiac stem cells in situ and ex vivo The miRNA content of a homogeneous population of cardiac stem cells varies depending on their source. Some of the factors that alter the miRNA profile of these cells include the age of the animal CSCs were obtained from, and their origin weather they have been isolated from tissue explants and ex vivo cultures or from fresh tissues, in situ. Inducing an miRNA expression pattern that enforces endothelial-mesenchymal transition could make these cells more beneficial in cell therapy approaches to prevent or reverse the cardiac remodeling following myocardial infarctions.

Promoter region of Glucocorticoid Response Element gene consists of a 3.5 kb region including one glucocorticoid response element, one SF-1 site which is a key player in the development and differentiation of steroidogenic tissues, and an estrogen response element.Promoter region of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) gene consists of a region of about 2 kb including two estrogen receptors, two SF-1 sites and a metal-responsive element binding site.These cis-acting elements are crucial in environmental impact on zebrafish. Both promoter regions are functional in zebrafish embryos and in vitro, acting as efficient regulatory elements. These genes are ubiquitously expressed during the early stages of embryogenesis especially within muscle and cardiac cells.
