I oversee how The Research Foundation is presented to Kansas City and surrounding communities through donor communications, website maintenance, social media management, email marketing and media relations. The best part of my job is telling the stories of our advocates. Our Foundation reaches a wide variety of people and sharing their relationship with our organization on our website, through Facebook, in a newsletter sent to perspective donors, or via news releases sent to local media is how I spend most of my time. I was promoted from marketing and communications coordinator to marketing and communications manager less than a year into my position and was promoted to director of marketing and communications less than three years at the organization. In addition to directing marketing and communications for The Research Foundation, I also direct marketing and communications for Cass Community Health Foundation, who shares staff with The Research Foundation. It is a smaller Foundation, but my responsibilities are similar. Our focus is on youth in Cass County, Missouri, which makes telling advocate stories very moving and, often times, entertaining. In order to increase awareness of our Foundation and its mission, I am working on developing our online presence, including a brand new website launch that I completed one year into the job. In addition to social media management, I wrote content all for our website and supervised the marketing assistant that executed all website updates. I also tracked behavior and demographics on their website with analytics. I worked very closely with developers in the relaunch of their website by providing layout and design ideas, functionality recommendations, and content. I worked with department designers and personally designed and edited digital media to be used across all of these different platforms. I also prepared and edited news releases for events and announcements. I developed a communications plan that included website management, digital and print signage, social media, media relations and event coordination for the building's renovation. I designed print and digital media for events, internal communications, and outreach materials, the most notable being the graphics for the campus-wide K-State Biodiesel Initiative. I was also a major contributor to the Office's website transition to the university content management system, wrote content for the website relaunch, and maintained the website during the tenure of my internship. For most Office efforts, I assisted in marketing plans including working with the K-State Division of Communications and Marketing to execute campus-wide Earth Week efforts. I was also involved in the organization of several meetings, programs, awards ceremonies, and conferences and provided support for the university sustainability planning committee. In addition to my duties, I supervised two other interns and assisted them in understanding and completing their tasks. I worked in the marketing department at the K-State Student Union during my time as a student at K-State. A majority of my responsibilities included writing and editing news releases; producing internal, donor, and campus-wide newsletters; managing and updating web content; and designing print and digital marketing pieces. I also assisted in regional and national conference planning and provided support for the K-State Student Union Ambassador program.

I served as a marketing intern for KMT Waterjet Systems the summer of 2007 and 2008. My main responsibilities were designing print media and researching optimal SEO content for web development. I also participated in creative workgroups and discussions for product development and gained various administrative skills.
