I have since lived in several different places, including Utah; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Louisiana; South Dakota and Nebraska. My wife and I decided to settle in Gilbert, Arizona where we live with our six children. We love the outdoors and sports. Most of our recreational time together is spent at sports games or getting outside to hike, fish, swim, cliff jump, or explore new places. I enjoy reading, writing, CrossFit, running, travelling and trying new food places.

I primarily practiced in estate planning, although I also did some family law, business law and real estate law. I enjoyed helping individuals and families consider the many options of planning for their financial future and managing their wealth. I provided simple wills and living trusts, as well as documents more specific to the needs of my clients and their family members, such as special needs trusts, hybrid domestic asset protection trusts, and even pet trusts. I also enjoyed helping clients who were appointed as successor trustees to navigate through the laws and procedures related to trust administration and probate. In this area, I was able to help individuals who had to work through family difficulties and, in some cases, problems arising from improperly funded trusts.I have developed relationships with individuals and businesses through networking in social groups, in the community and as a member of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce. I have done presentations on living trusts and have been able to work with individuals and business owners to preserve wealth and plan for the future.

As an associate attorney at the Berry Law Firm, I practiced veterans disability benefits law. I reviewed volumes of medical records and military personnel records. I researched diseases and illnesses and the interrelationship of diseases and illnesses as they related to my clients' claims for veterans benefits.I researched chapter 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations, as well as legal precedent from the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. I drafted arguments on behalf of my clients using medical evidence and relevant statutory law and case law to support their claims. I also worked with my clients to develop their claims and get additional evidence in the form of statements and doctors' opinions.I represented clients before the Board of Veterans' Appeals in travel board hearings and video conference hearings. I also represented clients in telephone conferences at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. I used skills of advocacy and negotiation to determine the strengths and weaknesses of my clients claims and advocated for my clients' best interests under the law.I posted weekly blogs on our firm's web site (www.ptsdlawyers.com), providing content on topics relating to veterans benefits law, as well as the recent opinions that have come down from the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.I attended annual conferences hosted by the National Organization for Veterans Advocates (NOVA). I gathered new information and data at these conferences and provided training to law firm employees who are involved in the VA practice and who did not attend the conference. I also developed professional relationships with other practitioners nationwide to foster collegiality and an interstate network based on face-to-face interaction.

My responsibilities as the Director of Policy and Research increased my understanding of the vital relationship between business and politics.I represented the interests of more than 1,000 business men and women in the Lincoln, Nebraska area. I collaborated with the President and CEO to develop policies and procedures to provide crucial support in the business community and before city, county and state government.I worked in lobbying efforts at the city, county and state level and worked diligently to assist in the shaping of codes and legislation that would best represent sound fiscal policy. I testified before city, county and state government on issues concerning economic development, fiscal policy, budgetary constraints and employee wages and benefits.I assisted in the development of marketing and sales methods to help meet the organization's operational needs. I influenced design of marketing tools and advertisements distributed to membership for meetings and events. I organized monthly meetings and led the discussion in some of those meetings on topics ranging from legislative reform and policy changes to how to improve profit margins and increase overall success in business.I increased LIBA membership through personal sales efforts in addition to my other duties. I implemented a direct sales approach through phone contacts, meeting with decision makers one on one, making a presentation and closing the sale. I also diligently followed up with those who were initially undecided.

I worked as a News Correspondent and wrote articles for the Justice and Safety Desk, covering on-the-scene police raids and felony court proceedings.

I wrote magazine articles for BYU Television and KBYU Television magazines, working with a media team to produce a quality, monthly product. I also formatted and edited the program descriptions.
